On July 7th, KBS 2TV’s “Boss in the Mirror” featured a surprise appearance by NewJeans. The camera captured them greeting their senior Park Myung-soo, who was also attending the same university festival as a guest singer.
Park Myung-soo expressed his affection for NewJeans, “They’re like my kids. They’re actually the age of my daughter. Especially Hyein (16), who is the same age as my daughter. They’re so pretty and I always worry about them. I’m really like a father to them.”
He then asked NewJeans, “You’re going to stay and watch my performance, right?” NewJeans replied “We have another festival to attend“, revealing that they had two events in one day.
Park Myung-soo, envious, said, “I only have one event.” NewJeans responded “We get invited a lot, so sometimes we have two events in a day“, showing their immense popularity.
Park Myung-soo then asked bluntly, “When do you get paid? To this, MC Jun Hyun-moo jokingly suggested, “Ask Min Hee-jin (CEO of NewJeans’ agency ADOR).
NewJeans surprised everyone by saying, “We are donating all the earnings from this university festival.” Previously, on June 3rd, ADOR announced “NewJeans performed at seven university festivals over a week, receiving a lot of love and energy. They wanted to give back to students in need with the love they received. They are grateful for these opportunities“, revealing that all the proceeds from the university festivals would be donated to the Korea Student Aid Foundation. The donations will be used to support living and housing expenses for low-income college students.
NewJeans also created a warm atmosphere by gifting Park Myung-soo a signed CD with a handwritten letter. In return, Park Myung-soo encouraged them, “Stay healthy and do well today.”
Meanwhile, according to the Financial Supervisory Service’s Data Analysis, Retrieval and Transfer System on April 25th, ADOR’s sales for 2023 were 110.3 billion won, a fivefold increase from the previous year’s sales of 19 billion won.
Accordingly, it is estimated that NewJeans members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein each received about 5.2 billion won in total earnings last year.
