3rd Gen Idol Revealed to be Daughter of SM C&C CEO, Friend-like Relationship with Dad
The CEO of SM C&C was recently revealed to be the father of a 3rd generation girl group member via a TV program.
The father of WJSN (Cosmic Girls)’s Soobin, who has been revealed as a 29-year veteran in the entertainment industry and the CEO of SM C&C, garnered attention for giving his daughter stern advice.
Particularly in the TV Chosun program “Dad and I” airing on the afternoon of the 29th, Soobin appears as the “representative daughter in her 20s”, showcasing her daily life with her “friend-like dad”. Soobin’s father demonstrates his love by giving her a morning call and a heartfelt shoulder massage, as well as struggling to take the perfect photo during their cafe date, displaying his “MZ dad” traits of matching everything to his “MZ daughter”.
Soobin’s father, a former Korean wrestling athlete, revealed that he entered the entertainment industry with the help of his senior – MC Kang Ho-dong. Currently, he works as the CEO of SM C&C’s management division, managing top Korean celebrities such as Kang Ho-dong, Jun Hyun-moo, Seo Jang-hoon, and Kim Jun-hyun. Familiar to many, Soobin’s father has appeared on numerous broadcasts as Kang Ho-dong’s manager, making him a broadcasting senior to his daughter, Soobin.
Although Soobin’s father is a quintessential fool for his daughter, often brought to tears just by talking about her, he switches to a stern “senior mode” when it comes to work. While monitoring “Dad and I” together, when Soobin asked, “Should I dye my hair?” her father advised, “It’s not suitable for a show watched by elders,” offering detailed feedback on her hair and outfit styling.
He also empathized with Soobin’s difficulties as a broadcasting senior, saying, “It’s tough to speak up in the presence of teachers and seniors, I understand how hard it is to find the right timing.”
However, when Soobin expressed her hesitance to speak up, saying, “Since it’s all adults talking, I’m unsure if I should say anything,” he gave her a tough-love response: “Don’t hesitate; you need to speak up. If you’re curious, the viewers might be curious too.”
Soobin appreciated this, stating, “My dad gives me very realistic advice, not just blindly supporting me but offering helpful guidance.”
