Lee Sun Kyun’s funeral took place at Funeral Home No. 1, National University Hospital, Seoul, Korea
Over December 27th and 28th, close colleagues gathered to bid farewell to the late actor on his final journey.
Media captured the scene of Korea’s top celebrities, including Jung Woo Sung, Lee Jung Jae, Ha Jung Woo, Jeon Do Yeon, Siwon (Super Junior), Jo Jung Suk, Yoo Yeon Seok, Lee Sung Min, Yoon Kye Sang, mourning with the bereaved family.
The stars were silent and mournful, with Jeon Do Yeon even crying while walking, and Song Young Kyu so grief-stricken that he needed support to stand.
On the morning of August 4, 2025, Korean entertainment was rocked by the news that actor Song Young Kyu was found dead at the age of 55. His body was discovered inside a car in Cheoin-gu, Yongin (Gyeonggi Province). Authorities confirmed no signs of foul play or a suicide note, and an investigation is underway.
What has deeply saddened the public is the striking similarity between his death and that of his close friend, actor Lee Sun Kyun. Both were found deceased in cars. Both had been under intense public scrutiny and were facing personal scandals—Lee was under investigation for drug use and extramarital affairs, while Song was recently charged for drunk driving.
Song and Lee had shared a close friendship, notably working together on the film Land of Happiness. When Lee passed away, Song attended the funeral and was so emotionally devastated he had to be physically supported due to his grief.
Ten days prior to his death, Song was facing criminal prosecution for drunk driving. The incident led to severe backlash, with drama productions cutting ties with him and roles being canceled. According to sources close to Song, his personal life had also become extremely difficult: financial struggles due to his wife’s failed café business, separation from his family, and the pressure of supporting two daughters studying abroad.
In his final days, Song Young Kyu was reportedly full of regret, guilt, and self-blame over his actions and the damage done to his family. Sadly, his emotional and financial hardships led to a devastating end.
