Director Hong Sang Soo and actress Kim Min Hee once again turned their backs on domestic film festivals.
On October 5th, the 27th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) red carpet event was held at the Centum City Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan.
After suffering from serious difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic film festivals have been normalized for the first time in three years, and numerous Korean and foreign stars have appeared on the red carpet.
The main cast and crew of “The Novelist’s Film” and “Top” directed by Hong Sang Soo also visited the BIFF, but Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee did not appear again this time. The red carpet was attended by Kwon Hae Hyo and Cho Yoon Hee, who starred in the movie “Top”, and Ki Joo Bong and Park Mi So from “The Novelist’s Film”.
Kim Min Hee and Hong Sang Soo attended the 70th San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain last month and attended various events including official photo calls. In the video released through SNS at the time, a friendly two-shot between director Hong Sang Soo of “Top” and Kim Min Hee, who was named as the film’s production manager, was captured. Kim Min Hee was caught taking care of Hong Sang Soo.
Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee are only attending international film festivals after admitting their romantic relationship, perhaps because they are conscious of the negative reactions to their affair from the Korean public.
Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee first caused controversy by acknowledging the rumors that they were dating at the press preview of the movie “On the Beach at Night Alone” in March 2017.
