6 idol groups that successfully reunited or made group comebacks although the members are under different companies

There is a so-called “7-Year Curse” in K-pop. After 7 years, the contract of an idol group with their agency will expire.

However, some idol groups successfully overcame the evil “7-Year Curse” to keep their group and prove their extraordinary friendship. There have been groups that continue their group activities even after the members moved to different agencies.

Let’s look through K-pop groups that are still remaining as a team by sparing a little time for group activities rather than disbanding for personal goals and profits.

1. Girls’ Generation

Making their debut in 2007, Girls’ Generation recently made a spectacular comeback on August 5th by releasing the 7th full album “FOREVER 1” to mark their 15th debut anniversary.

Sooyoung and Seohyun, who are active as actresses, already moved to other agencies, but they gathered with the members to write a new history for K-pop girl groups.

Girls’ Generation also appeared in various entertainment programs, such as JTBC’s “Knowing Bros”, Youtube’s web entertainment program “MMTG”, etc., to promote their comeback as a whole group, drawing big cheers from fans.

2. 2PM

As the song “My House”, which was released in 2015, went backward on charts in 2020, the public raised high expectations for 2PM to make a group comeback.

Ok Taec-yeon and Hwang Chan-sung already left JYP Entertainment, but 2PM still managed to release their 7th full album “MUST” in 2021 and carried out promotional activities as a whole group.

Showing off their synchronized group dance and excellent stage presence, 2PM once again proved their power as a representative idol group of K-pop’s second generation.

3. 2NE1

Four members of 2NE1, who debuted under YG Entertainment in 2009, are currently having different agencies.

They gathered at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which was held in Indio, California, in May, and presented an amazing reunion performance.

Music fans from all over the world applauded and cheered for 2NE1 members, who tried to gather with full members for the first time in six years and four months and performed a perfect stage.

With the members’ unchanging affection for each other and their group, 2NE1 has consistently discussed reuniting and resuming group activities.

4. KARA

On KARA’s 15th debut anniversary in June, members Han Seung-yeon, Park Gyu-ri, Heo Young-ji, together with former members Kang Ji-young and Nicole took a commemorative group photo.

Except for Park Gyu-ri and Heo Young-ji, who are still under DSP Media, other members are active in different companies. However, they gathered together to prove their team’s loyalty.

At a press conference to celebrate the release of her new single “YOU.F.O”, Nicole delighted fans by revealing that KARA members were discussing making a comeback as a whole group.

5. GOT7

After their exclusive contracts with JYP Entertainment expired in January last year, all GOT7 members decided to not renew their contracts and moved to separate agencies.

At that time, many fans were worried that GOT7 would be disbanded since the members were all scattered. Soothing fans’ concerns, GOT7 made a splendid comeback with the mini album “GOT7” in May.

GOT7 also held the fancon “GOT7 2022 FANCON HOMECOMING with I GOT 7” at SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Seoul Olympic Park for two days on the 21st and 22nd of May.

6. T-ARA

T-ARA members also left their original agency MBK Entertainment. However, they made a successful comeback last year with the album “RE:T-ARA” using their own money.

Except for Eun-jung, the three members Ji-yeon, Qri, and Hyo-min were not under any company at that time.

The girls surprised everyone when they revealed that they produced the album and even styled themselves without the help of any entertainment agency and staff.
