Now, We Are Breaking Up – a melodrama starring Song Hye Kyo and Jang Ki Yong, finally premiered last week. Marking Song Hye Kyo’s comeback to the small screen after her divorce, Now, We Are Breaking Up has drawn much attention ever since the announcement of the storyline and the cast.
Now, We Are Breaking Up depicts the story of Ha Young Eun (Song Hye Kyo) – a smart, beautiful and passionate fashion designer. Her life takes a turn when she meets Yoon Jae Gook (Jang Ki Yong) – a young, rich and sought-after fashion photographer.

Before enlisting in military service, 2021 was a busy year for Jang Ki Yong as he starred in two dramas My Roommate Is A Gumiho and Now, We Are Breaking Up along with the Netflix film – Sweet and Sour. In Now, We Are Breaking Up, Jang Ki Yong plays the famous freelance fashion photographer Yoon Jae Gook. He comes from a rich family background, but Jae Gook chooses to live an independent life. He meets Ha Young Eun and has a one-night stand with her – something Jae Gook can’t forget. Fate arranges for him to see her again in Seoul, but Yeong Eun acts like she doesn’t know Jae Gook.
Through the role of Yoon Jae Gook, Jang Ki Yong captures the hearts of many viewers with his handsome looks and irresistible charm. Although he is younger than Song Hye Kyo, Jang Ki Yong’s appearance and aura makes the character look mature and reliable. The age difference is barely showing.

4. The main couple’s sizzling chemistry
When Jae Gook and Young Eun reunite, Young Eun is surprised to see the man from her one-night stand show up again in her life. Jae Gook quickly falls for Young Eun and is determined to pursue her. Despite the efforts of the handsome male lead, Young Eun acts like she does not care. The scenes of the two engaging in witty conversations and how Jae Gook continues to flirt with Young Eun definitely keep the viewers hooked.
Although only 3 episodes have aired, there are already 2 kiss scenes and a bed scene between the male and female lead. The drama begins with a steamy scene inside a hotel room, followed by a peck on the lips in the elevator in episode 2. In episode 3, there is finally a real kiss initiated by Jae Gook.
Song Hye Kyo and Jang Ki Yong have received positive reactions for their romantic tension and on-screen chemistry despite the age gap. 5. The exciting storyline between Jae Gook, Young Eun and Soo Wan
Although the drama seems predictable and typical of a romance, Now, We Are Breaking Up still contains a special “twist” that makes viewers look forward to the next episodes. Knowing that Jae Gook likes her, Young Eun is still not moved. She stands her ground and draws the line between them.
When Jae Gook asks his senior to appear on Young Eun’s show to help her, he discovers that Young Eun has a connection to Yoon Soo Wan – Jae Gook’s older brother who passed away in an accident. Young Eun’s answer when Jae Gook asks her how she knew Soo Wan is, “We’re in the process of breaking up.”
It seems that the drama’s title has more to do with Young Eun and Soo Wan’s relationship instead of the two leads. Later in episode 3, Young Eun also confirms her relationship with Jae Gook’s brother.
Eun Young and Soo Wan used to be lovers. They shared a dreamy romance in France, but when they returned to Korea, Soo Wan had an accident on the way to have a date with Young Eun. Young Eun waited until midnight without knowing what happened to her boyfriend, so she misunderstood that he wanted to break up with her and ghosted her until now. Also in this episode, Eun Young learns from Jae Gook that Soo Wan passed away that day.
