Current K-dramas no longer need to feature a lineup of top famous actors to get good ratings.
This list only includes dramas that are non-sequels.
1. Mr. Queen
Over the years, Shin Hye Sun has continued to participate in TV projects with stable ratings, but she has not yet reached the level of an A-lister. However, Shin Hye Sun has boosted her popularity significantly thanks to the success beyond expectations of Mr. Queen, in which she plays the lead alongside rising actor Kim Jung Hyun. The drama earned an average rating of 12.581%, an impressive record for a cable station. Mr. Queen also enters the Top 10 highest-rated dramas on tvN with this achievement.
2. Bossam: Steal the Fate
An average rating of 9.75% is not exceptional, but it is unarguably outstanding for a drama aired on a small cable network like MBN. Kwon Yuri and Jung Il Woo are also not known as actors who can “carry” ratings, so the achievement of Bossam: Steal the Fate is amazing.
3. One The Woman
The three main characters of One The Woman are Honey Lee, Lee Sang Yoon and Jin Seo Yeon – 3 names that are not very prominent in the Korean film industry. No one would have expected this drama to have the highest rating up to 17.8%. Compared to the drama of famous actress Song Hye Kyo – Now, We Are Breaking Up, One The Woman has a much better performance.
4. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
Kim Seon Ho is a rising name after playing the national supporting role in Start Up and coming to Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, he became the male lead, starring with Shin Min Ah. Of course, both Shin Min Ah and Kim Seon Ho are influential names, but not top actors, that’s why Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha‘s achievement really surprised many people. Specifically, the average rating of the movie is 9.5%, the highest episode is up to 12.6%.
5. Taxi Driver
It is undeniable that the main couple of ‘Taxi Driver‘, Lee Je Hoon and Esom, both have excellent acting skills. Despite the fact that the two actors have never participated in a high-rating series with the role as the main cast, the rating of ‘Taxi Driver‘ is still sometimes up to 16%, and from episode 4 onwards, it has never dropped below 10%.
