4 astounding on-screen transformations of Korean actors (ft. Lee Min Ho, Kim Hee Sun, and more)

These actors stun with their on-screen transformations.

Along with actors who often stick to the same image across different roles, there are also those who have strived to change their images to bring in new experiences for viewers. However, there have been some changes that have sparked more debate than praise.

1. Kim Hee Sun

Kim Hee Sun was once known as the “queen of tear jerking dramas” because her name is associated with a series of dramas such as Sad Love Story, Faith, Women Of Dignity,… Unlike her previous safe images, in her latest comeback with Tomorrow, Kim Hee Sun took on a Grim Reaper role.

If the audience usually imagines Kim Hee Sun in luxurious and wealthy female characters, her role in Tomorrow is a completely one-of-a-kind version of the actress.

2. Han So Hee

It is no exaggeration to say that playing a feisty character in My Name was the turning point in Han So Hee‘s career. Previously, if she played a naive and good girl in Nevertheless, then the fearless character Ji Woo in My Name has impressed the viewers with her bold transformation of image, and even helped Han So Hee receive a nomination for Best Actress at the 2022 Baeksang Awards.

3. Lee Byung Hun

Top actor Lee Byung Hun captured the viewers’ hearts with his powerful and romantic charisma in blockbuster series like Mr. Sunshine, Squid Game, has recently changed into an image of a “country guy” in Our Blues.  Lee Dong Suk is a role which is far different from Lee Byung Hun’s previous characters. No longer boasting a cool and manly image, Lee Byung Hun in Our Blues has a rather sloppy and old-fashioned appearance.

4. Lee Min Ho

Pachinko is probably the drama that marks a turning point in Lee Min Ho’s acting career that is often said to lack versatility. Lee Min Ho‘s portrayal of villainous character Koh Hansu helped him break free from the stereotype of an actor who can only take on the same type of protagonist in dramas. In order to bring Hansu to life, he didn’t hesitate to challenge himself in scenes he never did before.
