4 actors who almost turned down their iconic K-drama roles: Gong Yoo’s reason is most surprising
If the following actors didn’t change their minds in time, these iconic K-drama roles could have been played by other actors.
Unconfident with their abilities, afraid to have their image affected or simply because of busy schedules, these Korean actors almost rejected important drama roles in their careers.
1. Gong Yoo – Goblin
Despite having achieved success both in films and TV series, such as “Coffee Prince“, after a long break from the small screen, Gong Yoo was not confident to star in dramas. This is the reason why he originally rejected the role of Kim Shin in Goblin for 5 years even though the script came from the “golden screenwriter” Kim Eun Sook. After long consideration and meeting with writer Kim, Gong Yoo eventually accepted the offer to become the legendary Goblin. But after the amazing success of Goblin, it seems that Gong Yoo is still afraid of dramas when 5 years later, viewers have yet to get to watch him again on the small screen.
2. IU – My Mister
IU often received mixed reactions to her acting performance before she took on a role in My Mister and became acknowledged as a legit actress instead of an idol. However, IU originally turned down this part because she was afraid of controversy. In fact, My Mister once got embroiled in controversy at the beginning of its broadcast because the audience found the stark age difference in the relationship between the two leads inappropriate. However, the concerns later subsided because My Mister is not a love story.
3. Jung Hae In – Something In The Rain
Jung Hae In’s popularity skyrocketed after he landed his first drama male lead role in Something In The Rain alongside senior Son Ye Jin. Unexpectedly, he initially rejected this part because he wanted to spend more time resting and recovering from previous filming and promotion schedules. However, after reading the script and getting drawn to it, Jung Hae In changed his mind.
4. Park Hae Joon – The World of the Married
The role of detestable, cheating husband in The World of the Married helped Park Hae Joon shoot to fame and become more well-known to the public after years of acting in supporting roles. However, this character was almost played by another actor because when he received the casting offer, Park Hae Joon rejected because he was not confident that he would do well. After a few conversations with the director who is also a good friend of his, Park Hae Joon had second thoughts and made a life-changing decision to take the part.
