As of the 13th, it has been confirmed that a BTS fan account with 290,000 followers has vanished from X (formerly Twitter).
The account, previously active as the “BTS Music Information Team,” posted on X on the 9th, stating, “Everyone is affected. Please make a quick decision.” The post, which criticized the situation surrounding Suga’s drunk driving scandal affecting BTS members, quickly went viral with 26 million views.
However, the post faced backlash from some ARMYs (BTS’s fandom). Some ARMYs commented, “Is this really a big deal for the Music Information Team?” “Seems a bit over the top,” and “They’re making a fuss.” Following the criticism, the account lost 10,000 followers, dropping to 280,000.
On the same day, some ARMYs launched a total attack with hashtags calling for Suga’s resignation, but the hashtags disappeared all at once. As of 11 PM on the 12th, the hashtags ‘#MinYoongi_Resignation’, ‘#DrunkDriver_MinYoongi_Resign’, and ‘#SUGA_Resign’ were trending at 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places respectively. Netizens speculate that the sudden removal of these hashtags was due to a coordinated report campaign by some hardcore ARMYs.
Earlier, on the 7th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that Suga was under investigation for violating road traffic laws (drunk driving). Suga was found alone and fallen off an electric scooter while inebriated in the Yongsan area the previous day.
In response, Suga and his agency Big Hit Music released an official statement, but they faced criticism for downplaying the incident by describing the electric scooter as a “motorized scooter” and the distance traveled as “500 meters in a straight line,” and stating that there were “no personal or property damages.”
Furthermore, on the 9th, the Yongsan Police Station revealed that Suga’s blood alcohol concentration at the time of the incident was 0.227%, exposing his claim of having “just one beer” as false and reigniting the controversy.
