On the morning of Nov 16th, a 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (hereinafter referred to as 2021 MAMA) global press conference was held at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. Kim Dong-hyun, director of the convention business office, Kim Hyun-soo, head of CJ ENM’s music content headquarters, and Park Chan-wook, CP of Mnet, attended the meeting.

When asked about the disease prevention issues related to face-to-face concerts, Director Kim said, “Unlike last year, we confirmed that the event will be hosted face-to-face. We are preparing in line with the pandemic policy. The disease prevention guide for the audience are also in prepare,” he said.

When asked about the ambiguous identity of “MAMA“, head of the headquarters Kim said, “Starting with the 1999 Mnet Video Music Awards, we started with the aim of changing our name to Mnet Music Asia Awards expanding it into an Asia Awards. With the mission of K-pop, we have thought a lot about our role as a helper to introduce K-pop to the world. Beyond Asia, I think we are now looking for a new identity to challenge the U.S. market,” he promised about future growth.

He added, “As it has been consumed mainly by Asians during our “Asia” phase, our vision is to become the best awards ceremony in the world for fans around the world with Korean fans as the center.”

Meanwhile, 2021 MAMA will soon happen under the concept of “MAKE SOME NOISE,” which allows the world to experience the power of music that goes beyond the walls of country, race, and generation without prejudice, respect the ideal of everyone in order to become a bigger community.

Lee Hyo-ri will be the first female host in MAMA history. A surprise reunion stage for the project group Wanna One is also being planned. In addition, there will be a celebratory stage by dancers appearing in Mnet’s viral program “Street Woman Fighter”. The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. (KST) on December 11th.
