Fans of groups whose members are predicted to debut with the super boy group from SM are very upset due to these worries.
On Aug 2nd, Korean media reported about a blockbuster boy group from SM Entertainment which consists of 7 prominent members from their current boy groups: Taemin (SHINee), Baekhyun, Kai (EXO); Taeyong, Mark, Lucas và Ten (NCT). Replying to the press, SM said that they will have an official announcement on Aug 8th. This can be seen as a silent confirmation for the rumored boy group.
Another daring new idea from SM. And of course, anything new will always receive debatable reaction. There’s still no information about this super boy group yet, but fans of groups whose members are named in the line-up are very upset and furious due to many reasons.
Messing up and affecting the activity of their main group
Even though SM has tried to calm fans down by the announcement that the main groups of 7 members will be prioritized and the new group won’t affect their original activity, fans are still worried. Instead of EXO Kai, SHINee Taemin, NCT Mark,…fans who wish to continue to support them will have to get use to a new name of their idols.
This new motif from SM makes it hard to pin point the position of them in K-Pop scene. Moreover, future activity and a regular comeback plan with this new group will, more or less, affect the main group. Schedules clashing is unavoidable. Unable to keep up with their main group, will fans leave them?
The idols’ health condition
If true, this boy group will debut at the end of the year when EXO’s members are getting more busy with their activity. For example, Baekhyun recently debut as a solo and is currently going on concert tour with Kai and other EXO members. NCT’s members are under enough stress promoting as different units, working along with their seniors won’t do much help to their stress level, fans believe.
Fanwars between SMTOWN’s fandoms
Any fan would want their idol to be prioritized. This is why, SM will have to think carefully before releasing new projects for this super boy group. How to balance the screentime of each MV, how to divide lines, who will be the center,…when each member already has their huge fanbase who is always ready to fight if they sense any injustice. And of course, no one want to see a fanwar between fandoms of groups from the same agency.
Especially, among 7 members, many are in charge of the same position, for example center, visual or main dancer. There are currently 2 famous dancing machine of K-Pop: Kai and Taemin, while Ten and Taeyong are also well-known for their skilled dance moves.
Just a temporary plan or an ambition to become the trendsetter?
With news about their fallen stock prices, many fans said that this boy group might be SM’s solution to temporarily save the agency. Members like Taemin, Baekhyun are reaching the age when they need to enlist, which means the group is established in order to promote the NCT’s members.
However, as a big agency well-known for their trendsetting tendency, it’s possible that they are ambitiously paving a new way for SM. Who knows, after this boy group, their might be a girl group with the same concept being formed?
