LE SSERAFIM Still Controversial After Coachella Week 2 Performances, “You Think The Public Is Stupid?”
Controversy over LE SSERAFIM’s singing skills continues despite the group’s stable voices during the second Coachella performance
LE SSERAFIM performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California for the second time on the evening of April 20th. The members appeared on the stage with “Good Bones”, a track from their third mini album, as the background music. According to their agency Source Music, LE SSERAFIM attracted 30,000 audiences during their first show and gathered a similar crowd in front of the Sahara stage for the second show.
Starting with “Antifragile” and “Fearless”, LE SSERAFIM sang a total of 10 songs, including “1-800-hot-n-fun” and “Fire in the belly”, for 40 minutes. In fact, the only difference from their first show was the members’ live singing skills. However, the group continued to be controversial as they did not sing live but performed with AR vocals even on the live broadcast.
Although some people praised the LE SSERAFIM’s efforts to deliver a better performance in the second show, the majority of netizens still poured criticism over the members’ poor singing skills, saying “It’s so funny to see the group trying to solve the singing controversy within a few days. They are not gods”, “Why are they performing at that festival despite having no skills at all?”, “You think the public is stupid?”, “Other singers also used AR but LE SSERAFIM relied on it too much”, “Why did they become singers even when they’re not good at singing?”, etc.
Earlier, LE SSERAFIM faced a severe backlash from the public because of their bad live singing performance at the Coachella festival last week. The members failed to present a perfect stage and kept making mistakes, such as unstable pitches and cracks. After the show, Sakura caused the controversy to intensify as she said, “I think it was the best performance of the group. We just debuted less than 2 years ago and did only one tour, but we enjoyed the Coachella stage with open hearts and devoted all of our energy. This day helped me feel the meaning of life and LE SSERAFIM”.
While the group was surrounded by criticism, Kim Chae-won also caused a stir as she shared a video of singer Doja Cat showing her middle finger on SNS.
