Hyuna Reveals: From Surviving on a Single Gimbap at 40kg to Health Decline at 26… Now I’ve Gained Weight

Hyuna confessed that she lost her health by revealing her weight during the days when she was skinny due to past schedules.

On May 2nd, a video featuring Hyuna was released on Rain’s YouTube channel Season B Season.

Rain invited Hyuna for a reunion after a long time. The two collaborated on the song “Oppa” in 2014.

Rain apologized, reminiscing about that time, saying, “I was deep into my American phase and caused a lot of trouble for Hyuna.”

Both of them reminisced about their time at JYP and ate nostalgic food near the company at that time.

Hyuna laughed, saying, “I’ve gained weight now,” in response to Rain’s compliment, “You’ve become more beautiful.” Rain worried, “You were 40kg back then? I remember seeing you after a few years and wondering how you got so thin.”

Hyuna replied, “Back then, I was 40kg. I endured by eating just one gimbap during hectic schedules, and my health deteriorated from age 26. I really wanted to perform well on stage, but I couldn’t. Was this the happiness I wanted? Since last year, I’ve come to realize that happiness is about being grateful for these small, simple things.”

Rain praised, “You’re a very precious existence to me. I always hoped for the best for you.” Hyuna revealed for the first time, “I chose JYP because my father told me to go to the company where Rain was.” This was why Hyuna started at JYP.

Hyuna reminisced, “I was impressed by Rain who always came to practice during trainee days. I learned the habit of always going to the practice room because your dedication was amazing.” Rain joked, “Because there was nowhere else to go in the evening.”

Hyuna said, “These days, I get energy from meeting producers at my new company who are younger than me. Six hours pass by after just one chat, and this album came out during that process.” She continued, “These days, I find happiness on stage rather than in album sales. It was Uhm Jung Hwa who made me realize that just standing on stage with active artists is something to be grateful for. I recently had the opportunity to talk to her and received a lot of positive influence. My new album ‘Attitude’ means ‘Just my attitude’.”

As natural dancers, the two expressed their longing for clubs. Rain lamented, “I really want to go to clubs these days. I feel like people think something’s contaminated… I used to go to clubs for inspiration.”

Hyuna joked, “I still feel that way these days. There are clubs where you go to listen to music.”

Rain expressed concern, saying, “I worry that if someone takes a photo of me hugging someone during a greeting at the club, what will happen. I’m very conscious because I’ve experienced unfair things.”

After listening to Hyuna’s new song, Rain praised, “Your vocals have changed. You have a lot more songs now. It’s not the singing style you used to have. I was surprised. I can see the effort of the past two years.” Hyuna explained, “I wanted to open a new chapter.”

Hyuna mentioned Psy, her former agency CEO and senior singer, saying, “I think Psy oppa is really cool. Thanks to him, I think I’m doing well.”

When Rain said, “The biggest mistake an artist can make is when they’re complacent. When they keep looking for comfort and ease,” Hyuna agreed, saying, “Being complacent is the worst.”
