On October 26th, fashion magazine Cosmopolitan released pictorials of the Mnet’s “Street Woman Fighter” dancers and their interviews. During the interview, YGX Lee Jung expressed that she hopes “dancer” could be recognized as a separate artist from “idol”.

Lee Jung said, “After appearing on ‘Street Woman Fighter’, a lot of people told me, ‘If I were as talented as Lee Jung, I could have become an idol, too’.” She explained that she knew this comment was obviously a compliment. However, there was a misunderstanding that she wanted to correct.

Lee Jung shared, “I’ve never thought being a dancer is my second choice as a job”. She continued, “Words have a huge impact, so misunderstandings could result in people developing prejudices. Anyone who only comes across this comment might think I’m a dancer because I failed to become an idol.”

Lee Jung said, “It’s really great to see dancers like me getting praised. However, instead of saying, ‘You looks as pretty as an idol. You’re as talented as an idol, so why did you become a dancer?’, compliments like “Lee Jung is really talented, and her expressions are also excellent” would be enough to comfort me and make me stronger.”

YGX Yeojin expressed that she also had similar ideas to Lee Jung‘s.

Yeojin said, “I recently saw comments saying, ‘Those appearing on ‘Street Woman Fighter’ turned to dancers because they couldn’t become singers, didn’t they?'”

She continued to confess, “I did have a dream of becoming an idol. However, I feel sad when people look at us in the way as if we chose to become a dancer as a second option because we lack singing and rapping skills.”

The dancer said she felt upset to see dancers who love dancing more than anything else are thought to choose dancing just because they couldn’t achieve another job.

Moreover, Yeojin also expressed her gratitude, “Thanks to ‘Street Woman Fighter’, it seems like more people are interested in the job of a dancer.”
