It turns out to be that TWICE’s digital record is not as impressive as 2 new girlgroups promoting at the same time.
Lately, the list of top 5 New Gen girlgroups (debut from 2014) that have the best digital sales was uploaded by a netizen. The collected data include group songs, solos, OST, collaborations, featuring; updated to 2017 on Gaon.
MAMAMOO dominates the highest rank with 14,5 million downloads. Not only the group’s songs have really outstanding rank on the chart but other songs that MAMAMOO members feature and collaborate in are also extremely welcomed by the audiences. The typical example is Loco’s latest hit “Don’t Give It To Me” featuring Hwasa, the song achieved No.1 on all daily and real-time charts in Korea.
The 2nd ranked girlgroup on the chart, above TWICE is Red Velvet. Apart from Taeyeon, the new generation girlgroup of SM is the artist having the best digital record among all SM artists. With 12,5 million downloads, the owner of “Red Flavor” proves the huge popularity they receive from the public.
Even though being a “queen” on music charts, TWICE is only ranked in 3rd position in this chart. It is said that since the glorious era of “Cheer Up” and “TT”, all the group’s later songs are still overshadowed by the previous songs, despite each song’s great successes.
G-Friend (4th rank) and Black Pink (5th rank) occupy the last two positions. Beside MAMAMOO, G-Friend is also the group that is managed by a small company but has stable digital sales. However, G-Friend’s records started to get lower compared to the series of hits such as Me Gustas Tu”, “Rough”, “Navillera”, etc.
Only ranked in the 5th rank, but Black Pink still surprises many people. Because the YG girlgroup has the least songs in the list, Black Pink only has 5 hits until now after almost 3 years of debut. Therefore, the number of 7,3 million downloads still can make Black Pink fans proud of these girls.
