Who pays for Kpop idols’ plastic surgery?

Former female Kpop idol Tina revealed that it was the management agency that pays for the plastic surgery costs for their artists. In particular, some companies receive discounts.

In a video on the YouTube channel DKDKTV, former K-pop idol Tina (aka Christine Park) revealed many stories about plastic surgery in Kpop.  According to Tina, most K-pop entertainment companies provide “support” for their artists to undergo plastic surgery. “Most companies that take artists to get their faces done are given a discount by plastic surgeons. In return, this place will take pictures of those idols for future promotion,” Tina said.

Therefore, when going to plastic surgery hospitals in Korea, customers can see photos of Kpop idols who have undergone cosmetic procedures at that hospital. This practical marketing tactic helps the hospital’s business a lot. However, which specific part of their face the idol had it “retouched” is not disclosed.

Tina said that not all entertainment companies are willing to spend on their artists for plastic surgery. However, in Kpop, most companies do not hesitate to spend money to improve the visual of their artists, especially if that company thinks that a good appearance can benefit the artist’s career.

Although the plastic surgery cost can be very high, it is only a small amount compared to the amount of debt that Kpop trainees have to pay to their agencies before officially debuting. Plastic surgery money is included in the training cost that each trainee must return to the management company later. This also explains why some Kpop idols are still broke despite having debuted for a long time.

Sometimes, Kpop idols want to have plastic surgery on their own. They still need to consult the management company before doing so. The company’s agreement does not mean that they will pay for the procedures. Tina also revealed that most Kpop idols will go to get their face “retouched” before each comeback. Tina added, “It’s not like K-pop idols go through plastic surgery once and they’re all done. They are constantly going to lift or change their nose a little bit.”

Born in 1994, Tina (real name: Park Soo Bin) used to be a member of the Kpop girl group Blady with 5 members.  The group debuted in 2011, under Star Planet Entertainment. In 2017, Blady disbanded.
