J-Hope is a perfect idol considering his intellectual and emotional strength. He never makes mistakes to be involved in controversies.
In the Kpop industry, no matter how perfect and flawless the image idols create for themselves is, most idols have been involved in at least one controversy, either over their talent, looks, personalities, gestures or something they said,… This comes from the reality that every statement, action, interest or expression of Kpop idols is often “spied on”. It’s difficult to please everyone. However, there are still some idols that fans think will never do anything wrong or spark any drama or controversy. In BTS, this “safest” member is J-Hope.
Regarding talent and responsibility at work, J-Hope always fulfills his position well, making it difficult for anti-fans to find reasons to criticize him. As a top dancer in BTS, J-Hope has excellent dancing skills. His execution of the choreographies is always on point. J-Hope’s dance style is a combination of popping and freestyle street dancing in a technical, definitive way. As a trainer once commented, J-Hope’s signature dance style can be described using the word “accurate”. Every time he performs, J-Hope surprises and makes fans wonder if he is a human being or a dancing “machine”. The male idol’s dance moves are accurate to every detail but also flexible. The way he performs manages to turn difficult choreography into neat movements.
When it comes to rap, J-Hope has a unique flow. Although his technique is not as good as RM or Suga, fans can still easily recognize his unique style. J-Hope’s rap style is lighter, more melodic, and dynamic. In addition, the male idol born in 1994 has the ability to feel the melody and rhythm of the songs very well. RM or Suga’s rap style could be somewhat heavy, arrogant, or too complicated sometimes, while J-Hope performs his rap verses in a pleasant, improvised, and fun way. Personality-wise, J-Hope is indeed an idol with a flawless image to the general public. He has not been involved in any controversy for anti-fans to take advantage of. J-Hope is self-controlled, serious in personal matters, optimistic, positive, self-disciplined, and highly responsible. Other BTS members repeatedly praised J-Hope as the most exemplary member in the group. In the show RUN!BTS broadcast in May, each member had to point out their own shortcomings. When it was J-Hope’s turn, all agreed that J-Hope is the only one without any bad points. RM jokingly said, “J-Hope’s weakness is that he has no flaws.” Ji Min said that J-Hope is very strict with himself, such as always going to work first, always getting up to put on makeup first when everyone else is lazy…
The staff who worked with J-Hope in his solo MV Daydream used to share, “Even when BTS is at the peak of popularity, he really has a great personality. The whole team was working for hours but J-Hope never stopped being a source of energy for the staff. J-Hope was definitely tired too, but he kept his positivity until the last minute, walking over to greet everyone.”
Regarding the way he treats his members and his relationships within the group, J-Hope is also a role model. He is considerate, takes good care of the members, and often creates a happy and positive atmosphere for BTS. Towards the 3 youngest members, Ji Min, V and Jung Kook, J-Hope has a very fair, unbiased attitude. He adores the maknae-line equally. The members of the hyung-line may be passive or reserved at times in expressing their feelings to other members, but J-Hope is openly affectionate with everyone. He does not hesitate to approach others and create a bond in the group.
It is worth mentioning that before his debut, J-Hope was not a cheerful person who easily showed enthusiasm or actively created a positive atmosphere for everyone. However, after becoming an idol, he became the most energetic piece in BTS. J-Hope himself once confessed that at home he rarely talks: “Perhaps because I talk and laugh a lot outside when I come home, I become absolutely quiet. I feel empty and have no energy.” It can be seen that J-Hope has changed in a more positive way because of the responsibility he feels to the members, to himself. Another good quality of J-Hope is that he has the ability to balance everything, never being too aggressive, too ambitious or trying to attract attention. In top famous groups, there are often situations where the members compete for the spotlight, trying to make themselves stand out in the group. Ambition isn’t to be blamed, especially for a group with a huge popularity like BTS. Surely the BTS members would more often than not have the thinking of “how to make me more attractive”, “how to make fans not disappointed in me”, “how to prove I’m an excellent person”. “…However, for J-Hope, he rarely shows those things. He was careful not to cause controversy when he spoke. He has an attitude of yielding to everyone, not demanding or complaining about anything. J-Hope always pushes his teammates to the center position, choosing for himself the position on the edge. He only focuses on doing his part well in the group, is always self-disciplined and hardworking, and still maintains confidence in himself.
J-Hope’s personal preferences are also under control. He does not smoke or drink alcohol, does not socialize with friends in the entertainment industry (or at least not openly). J-Hope only loves dancing, music production, fashion, shopping, collecting Bearbrick toy models…
In short, J-Hope is the member with the highest EQ in BTS, and also a “solid wall” that antis or public opinion will not be able to break. Fans joked that even if the anti used 100 magnifying glasses to look at J-Hope, they wouldn’t find any flaws to criticize, because he took everything under control. Other members may be entangled in controversies over their musical views (RM, Suga), professional skills (Jin’s choreography, Ji Min’s vocals…), and erratic attitudes (V), about personal interests (Jung Kook tattoo)… or being noisy about expressions, personality or certain manners… As for J-Hope, he certainly never lets loose of things, which opportunes and sparks haters who take advantage of their private lives to slander or make scandals.
