Weaknesses in the acting skills of 6 most popular idol-turned actresses

It’s inevitable that Kpop idols show their flaws when pursuing the acting path.

Idol-turned actors making mistakes when acting comes as no surprise for viewers. These weaknesses contribute to the prejudices that the public has against idol actors. Let’s review the most common problems with the on-screen performances of 6 famous idol-turned actresses below.

Yoona

Girls’ Generation’s visual center – Yoona, after many years of starring in various projects, is getting acknowledged as a real actress. Currently, Yoona is one of the most successful idol-turned actresses, as she has been nominated twice for Best Actress at the the prestigious Blue Dragon Film Awards.

Despite being recognized as a hard-working actress who constantly improves, Yoona’s acting still stumbles into mixed reviews at times. For example, in the comedy action film Exit, there are many scenes where Yoona makes the viewers wonder if she is crying or laughing.

Yoona

Or like in her latest movie Happy New Year, Yoona does not seem to get completely immersed into her character and fully portray all the emotions.  Gone are the days when Yoona’s acting was deemed stiff or lacking emotions, but what she needs to work on now is to do a better job at showcasing versatile emotions.

Suzy

From Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Woo Bin, Lee Jong Suk, Nam Joo Hyuk… it seems that every famous K-drama actor has acted alongside Suzy. However, Suzy cannot spark chemistry with all of her male co-stars.

Suzy

The visual combination of Suzy and her handsome male co-stars is always solid. It’s just a pity that there is not always a sizzling chemistry between them. A lot of intimate scenes feel like they are obviously acting, instead of giving off the feeling that they are actually in love.

Suzy’s acting has improved significantly over the years, but every time Suzy takes on a new role, her acting still receives mixed reviews from the viewers.

Kwon Nara

Kwon Nara impresses with her pretty appearance and willingness to change her image in different roles, but many viewers still find the former Hello Venus member’s monotonous acting a problem.

Kwon Nara

Kwon Nara has great potential as an actress. But her facial features are not diverse enough, as evidenced through her performances in Itaewon Class, Royal Secret Inspector and most recently Bulgasal: Immortal Soul.

That’s why in tvN’s airing historical blockbuster, Kwon Nara was overwhelmed by the acting of the supporting actress Gong Seung Yeon. If Kwon Nara doesn’t quickly change her acting skills with her facial muscles, no matter how high the ratings are, people will still not acknowledge her efforts.

Kwon Nara

Lee Hyeri

Also possessing a monotonous acting style, Lee Hyeri’s case is a lot worse than Kwon Nara when the roles she chose are also framed.

Lee Hyeri

The audience was so let down by Lee Hyeri because they thought she was a potential actress after her role Sung Duk Sun in “Reply 1988”. Who would have thought that since then, Lee Hyeri has been so stuck with this character that no matter which dramas she stars in, viewers can see Sung Duk Sun’s image. It’s like this character is reincarnated from one drama to another.

Although Kwon Nara’s is boring, at least the script she chose is quite diverse and the actress’s thinking was also good. As for Lee Hyeri, she seems not to have any strengths in her acting. If it weren’t for the “tailor-made” role Sung Duk Sun, it would be difficult for a Girl’s Day member to get so much attention now.

Lee Hyeri

Joy

Lee Hyeri’s acting career is still lucky compared to Red Velvet’s Joy. Having bad acting skills, the beauty born in 1996 was also known as a “rating killer” when the ratings of the 3 films she starred in kept declining gradually with the rating down to 0% in the currently airing drama, “The One and Only”.

Joy

It would take a long time to talk about Joy’s weakness in acting. In general, both her expression and pronunciation are very weak, her crying is fake and her smile is awkward.

Eyes are the most important part of an actor’s acting, but it’s also Joy’s big weakness. In the new drama, although there has been a lot of progress, overall, Joy’s acting is just a little bit better than a disaster. Joy should reconsider her acting career if she doesn’t want to continue to be criticized and fail in the future.

Joy

Jisoo

On this list, Jisoo is the newest, which means she will have the most time to correct her flaws in the future. Jisoo’s acting with her first lead role in “Snowdrop” was much more impressive than people expected. Jisoo’s tears are very emotional, very beautiful and make fans have tears welling up. However, sometimes her emotion is shown a bit too much so everything is overdone and everyone has to frown when seeing her somewhat outrageous expression.

Jisoo

Not knowing how to adjust emotions is just a small defect, but the big one is Jisoo’s lack of cinematic way of reading lines. This is a big mistake, but it’s still understandable because this is the first time Jisoo starred in a long drama. The beauty born in 1995 has a lot of potential to develop, so let’s look forward to seeing what she will bring us in her next roles.

Jisoo

If there is a weakness, then there is a chance to correct it and be acknowledged by the mass audience. Except for 2 difficult cases of Lee Hyeri and Joy, the remaining 4 names, we believe that they will be as successful as Eugene, Seo Hyun Jin or Jang Nara if they overcome their acting weaknesses. Let’s wait and see in the future how they will fix them and whether they fulfill fans’ expectations..
