Twice boasted their global popularity. They reached the top of the US Billboard’s main album chart.
Billboard reported on the 20th (local time), “Taste of Love, TWICE’s 10th mini album, ranked sixth on the Billboard 200 this week”.
TWICE broke their own record as their new album is 66 steps higher than the 72nd place of ‘Eyes wide open’ (December 2020), their second studio album.
It is the second that a Kpop girl group has reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200. Earlier, BLACKPINK ranked second on the chart. TWICE also established an impressive position with their new album.
Album sales are also noteworthy. ‘Taste of Love’ sold 46,000 copies with the traditional album sales alone were 43,000 copies. It became the best-selling album of the week.
TWICE has started targeting overseas markets. In February last year, they signed a partnership with Universal Music Group’s label, Republic Records. The group’s full-fledge global activities were announced.
It is starting to get attention in the local area. TWICE rose to prominence on the music charts by releasing English songs. They also appeared on many famous talk shows. They gradually expanded their fandom in North America.
In June of last year, the group entered the Billboard 200 for the first time since their debut with ‘More & More’ (No. 200). In December, they ranked 72nd on the same chart with ‘Eyes Wide Open’.
TWICE made a comeback on the 9th (local time) with a perfomance on the American talk show ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’. They performed the title track “Alcohol-Free” for the first time.
‘Alcohol-free’ also received hot response. It ranked 65th in global ‘Top 200’ of ‘Spotify’, the world’s largest music streaming platform. It also swept #1 on South Korea’s music charts.
