TWICE and BLACKPINK make a comeback in Japan at the same time: What achievements will they get?

On July 28, TWICE officially released their third Japanese full album ‘Perfect World’, including the title song of the same name. The MV ‘Perfect World’ was released on June 29. The song had a fast and powerful melody, the lyrics were the story about brave women who would never give up under any circumstances.

6 days later, BLACKPINK also made a comeback in Japan with their first full album ‘THE ALBUM -JP Ver’ which included 4 songs with Japanese lyrics: ‘How You Like That‘, ‘Pretty Savage’, ‘Lovesick Girls’, ‘You Never Know’ and 4 songs that kept the original Korean version. The 2 main MVs for the album were released on July 13 and August 3.

In its first week of release, ‘Perfect World’ sale-record were 68.833 copies on Oricon and 73,890 copies on Billboard Japan. On August 11, the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) officially awarded this album a gold certificate for having sold more than 100,000 copies.

Up to this point, all 14 Japanese singles and albums of TWICE have been certified double platinum (over 500,000 copies) or platinum (over 250,000 copies) or gold (over 100,000 copies) by the RIAJ.

Currently, TWICE was also the Kpop girl group with the highest hard-disk certifications announced by the RIAJ, breaking KARA’s record with 13 certifications. The last time this senior received a certification from the Association was 8 years ago with the album ‘BEST GIRLS’ (November 2013).

In its first week of release, ‘THE ALBUM -JP Ver’ sold-record were 25,669 copies on Oricon and 29,097 copies on Billboard Japan. This achievement was outsold by TWICE’s current record by more than 40,000 copies. Currently, BLACKPINK has not achieved any RIAJ’s certification.

According to the data by the end of July on Gaon, ‘THE ALBUM’ has just reached 1.4 million sold copies and was still the best-selling album by a girl group on this chart. On the other hand, ‘MORE & MORE’ was the best-selling album of the JYP‘s girl group with nearly 600,000 copies sold.

Up to now, BLACKPINK is the girl group with the best album sales in Korea. However, the situation is completely different in Japan when TWICE is still the leading female artist of the 3rd generation in this field, which is difficult for other competitors to surpass.
