tvN’s chart of 7 Korean blockbuster dramas caused controversy

On September 3, tvN announced “7 movies that amazed the world’s audience” on the official Instagram page. The list only includes works that have aired on tvN.

3. Vincenzo

4. Hotel Del Luna

5. What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?

6. Stranger

7. Hospital Playlist

However, many netizens don’t agree with this list and claim that some dramas are not worthy enough to be ranked in the Top 7, while hit dramas like Mr. Sunshine or the Reply series are not included.

Netizens’ comments:

• What exactly is the criteria for this list? Of all the dramas directed by Shin Won Ho, the Reply series is the most loved anywhere in the world, not Hospital Playlist.
• I can’t believe that Mr. Sunshine is not on this list.
• I’m annoyed that they picked What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim over Mr.  Sunshine.
• This list seems to be based solely on international popularity. In foreign countries, viewers are only interested in romance, instead of storyline or acting.
• These dramas may be popular overseas, but for many drama fans in Korea, the Reply series still represent tvN’s best works.
• The #1 tvN drama in my heart is Signal.
• There are many other dramas that can replace Hospital Playlist.

Some comments also pointed out that the broadcast date of ‘Crash Landing On You’ shown on the picture is wrong (tvN said the drama was broadcast from 2017 to 2020). Currently, this list has been removed from tvN’s Instagram.
