Top idol groups with the biggest Japan fanbase: TWICE and BLACK PINK’s surprising ranks

Twice and BTS were impressive with their massive growth over time.

Recently, Japanese media announced the official statistics of the number of fanclub members of idol groups in Japan in 2019. In order to join the fan club, the fans will have to pay a large amount of money. Having a big fanclub in Japan will help Korean idol groups make huge profits by selling goods and concert tickets. The number of members in the fanclub is also a factor to evaluate the success and popularity of each group when working in the Japanese market.

Compared to the 2018 ranking, there are many surprising changes at the top rankings this year. Accordingly, TVXQ’s No.1 position with 510,000 fans is being “threatened” with the rapid growth of BTS. After one year, BTS attracted 150,000 fans, bringing the total number of official fanclub members to 410,000. This result earned BTS the second place, pushing SHINee to third place (360,000 fans). Many fans predicted that BTS will likely surpass TVXQ in 2020 to become the Kpop idol group with the most fans in Japan.

Meanwhile, Twice is the only girl group to be in the top 5. With the impressive achievements of the past year in Japan, Twice’s fanclub members have increased by 70,000 people, rising from 110,000 fans to 180,000 fans, surpassing other boy groups like EXO (170,000 fans) or Super Junior (140,000 fans).

The remaining girl groups in the top 20 are Black Pink and G-Friend. Black Pink appears to be outnumbered by Twice. They only have 40,000 members in the official fanclub. G-Friend surprisingly appears at 17th place with 10,000 fans.

Twice has successfully held the Dome Tour in Japan, becoming a foreign artist with the honor of performing at Tokyo Dome in the shortest time since debut, and the first girl group in the history of Kpop to have a Dome Tour.

Following Twice, Black Pink will also have the Dome Tour in Japan at the end of 2019 or early 2020. However, this information is controversial. Some netizens think that Black Pink is not good enough to perform at the Dome Tour.

G-Friend also has a lot of promotional activities in Japan. With the concept and music style that is suitable to Japanese tastes, G-Friend promises to grow even more in the future. They used to be voted by the Japanese media to be one of the three representatives of the Hallyu wave, alongside BTS and Twice.
