YG is definitely a one-of-a-kind company in Kpop.
As one of the most powerful “empires” in Korea’s music market, YG Entertainment is the home to numerous talented and famous idols. When it comes to rules and management, YG is unlike any other entertainment agency. Even fans are often left speechless with how YG works.
Releasing an empty schedule for BLACKPINK
Recently, YG suddenly released BLACKPINK‘s December schedule, but when fans opened it, it was completely blank. This means that the group will not have any activities in the last month of 2021. YG’s unnecessary action caused fans to be disappointed because they were expecting a special comeback of BLACKPINK.
Raising flag on the building during Mino’s comeback
To celebrate the recent comeback of WINNER’s Mino, a large flag with his name printed was raised on YG building. This took fans by surprise and made them wonder if this is YG’s new tradition every time an artist makes a comeback.
On a show that WINNER’s Mino participated in, the host revealed a unique rule at YG. When guests enter the YG building, all phone cameras have to be covered with stickers. They are not even allowed to take selfies in any area. Although YG is against photos inside the building being shared to outsiders, they seem to forget that idols have taken photos and videos in almost every corner of this place.
Scouting trainees no matter how old they are
Not only having odd policies, YG’s trainee recruitment criteria are also unlike any other companies. Specifically, on the official website of YG Audition, YG made a notice to accept trainees born between 1920 (101 years old) and 2020 (1 year old). The company also added “Whenever – Whoever – Wherever” to describe their requirements for the applicants.
An idol had 2 debut MVs and no comeback
ONE used to be a well-loved idol under YG. He made his debut with 2 MVs, Heyahe and Gettin’ by. Both songs have soft and catchy melodies. However, many fans felt that these tracks could not show ONE’s hip-hop rapper style.
However, after debuting with 2 MVs, ONE’s activities were frozen. He never had a comeback. In July 2019, the male rapper left YG and no longer followed the career path of an idol. Until now, fans are still waiting for ONE to release new music.
These unique things about YG have become a trending topic of discussion among netizens. Fans even shade the company:
- Their lazy naming too, Jennie’s solo song is called SOLO, BLACKPINK’s album name is The Album, the invitation is called The Invitation,…
- YG has a great sense of humour, from how to respond to dating rumors to how to post audition notice
- Doesn’t YG know that their artists took photos everywhere in that building? What’s the point of those stickers?
- This mid-sized company is so weird…
Thanks to these bizarre things, despite being downgraded to a mid-sized company, YG can still attract much attention from K-pop fans. Moreover, it is hard to deny YG‘s imprint in Korea’s entertainment industry.
