MBC-TV’s “The Red Sleeve” is set to air 2 episodes in a row today (December 25th).
“The Red Sleeve” was earlier announced to air episodes 14 and 15 consecutively from 9:50 P.M. As the broadcast on December 31st was canceled and replaced by the 2021 MBC Gayo Daejejeon (MBC Music Festival) and the first episode of the follow-up drama was already scheduled to air on January 7th, 2022, MBC decided to do continuous broadcasts for “The Red Sleeve”.
This has resulted in a situation in which the viewers have to binge watch 2 episodes in a row without having the lingering feeling for each episode of the drama. Therefore, some viewers wrote such complaints on the bulletin board of the drama’s website. There were also comments expressing audiences’ disappointment about the lack of romance scene between King Jeongjo Yi San (Lee Jun-ho) and Seong Deok-im (Lee Se-young).
Meanwhile, an actor of “The Red Sleeve” already gave a spoiler related to the consecutive broadcasts. The “promise” that viewers have been waiting for is expected to appear in episodes 14 and 15.
Actress Lee Min-ji, who plays court lady Kim Bok-yeon, posted a photo of “The Red Sleeve” filming site on her Instagram story on December 24th. In the story post, she wrote, “After mastering Korean food, I returned without receiving unemployment benefits”, adding, “Everyone, I know you’re sad. But you must watch the 2 episodes aired consecutively tomorrow. Why? Because I read the script again and found the word ‘passion’.”
In fact, the teaser for the new episodes’ main plot released earlier has the content, saying, “the passionate feelings of Yi Sang and Seong Deok-im are revealed”. The production team also raised audiences’ expectations by saying, “In the upcoming broadcasts, the viewers will see a decisive event that causes the feelings of Yi San and Seong Deok-im, which have been suppressed for a long time, to explode”, adding, “As episodes 14 and 15 are aired in a row, you will be able to enjoy the swirling developments and a lot of stories about their romance.”
Meanwhile, “The Red Sleeve” depicts a sorrowful romance between a king who prioritizes his country and a court lady, who wants to protect the life she has chosen. In particular, it has emerged as one of the most successful historical dramas on MBC, ranking No.1 in ‘the most popular dramas/TV programs’ for 6 consecutive weeks.
