The reason why “Squid Game” director Hwang Dong-hyuk is still thinking about a season 2

Netflix’s original Korean series “Squid Game” has captivated the world, and the expectations for Season 2 are high.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk of Netflix’s original drama “Squid Game” poses for an online round interview held on the morning of Sep 28th. “Squid Game“, which tells the story of people, who participate in a mysterious survival game with 45.6 billion won in prize money, risking their lives to become the final winner, is gaining global popularity, ranking first in Netflix’s global TV program category.

Netflix’s original Korean series “Squid Game” has captivated the world. Expectations for Season 2 are also high, with the series topping the list of contents in 82 out of 83 countries that Netflix serviced.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who wrote and directed the script for “Squid Game,” is also well aware of these expectations. However, director Hwang is still thinking about whether he should continue with season 2 or not. Why is that?

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk was asked about his plan for Season 2 in an interview. “It was so hard for me to do Season 1. The process of writing, producing, directing, and doing it alone was a difficult process, both mentally and physically,” he confessed.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “For the time being, I don’t think I can do it right away (Season 2), but I think it’ll be a big deal if I don’t.” He also added, “There are some pictures that come to my mind now, but I have come up with some other movie ideas while filming the “Squid Game” which I would like to do first.

Director Hwang said, “I think we should talk specifically with Netflix first about season 2. I think I’ll answer after talking to Netflix,” he said adding, “But six of my teeth fell out while preparing for season 1. I don’t have a lot of teeth now and I’m getting implants,” he said. “I’m also worried that if I do “Squid Game Season 2”, I’ll have only dentures at that time.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s story contains his passion and concerns about the “Squid Game” and the efforts he put into his work. Even though we can’t wait to see season 2 of “Squid Game,” we hope he could take care of his health so that no teeth will be falling anymore.
