It has been pointed out that JTBC’s drama “Snowdrop” has too much broadcast time compared to “The One and Only” – a drama from the same broadcaster.
On Dec 26th, an article titled “Snowdrop is using JTBC alone” was posted on the online community theqoo. The article contained information about the broadcast time of “Snowdrop” and “The One and Only“. “Snowdrop” will be re-run at least twice and up to five times on each day of the week on JTBC, JTBC2 and JTBC4, while “The One and Only” will re-air once and up to twice on Monday~Wednesday on JTBC, JTBC2.
Netizens who saw the schedule criticized, “Isn’t this Snowdrop’s dictatorship?”, “Is Snowdrop using the broadcasting station alone?”, “Is Snowdrop brainwashing JTBC?”, “The One and Only is much more interesting”, “Do you fight against viewers?”…
Set in Seoul 1987, “Snowdrop” tells the love story of Im Su-ho, a prestigious university student who suddenly jumps into the dormitory of a women’s university wounded, and female college student Young-ro, who hides and takes care of Su-ho amidst the serious surveillance and crisis. The drama completed its filming last July.
However, after its synopsis was leaked, “Snowdrop” was embroiled in controversy over whether “Young-cho”, which is Jisoo’s role “Young-ro” in the original work, might have been inspired by Chun Young-cho, who resisted Park Chung-hee’s regime in the 1970s.
Regarding this, JTBC explained, “The motive behind Snowdrop’s background and major events is the presidential political situation amidst a military regime. Against this backdrop, the drama tells a fictional story of a government engaging with the North Korean regime to maintain its power. Many people have recently expressed concerns about ‘history distortion’ and ‘disparaging the democratic movement’. However, most of the misunderstandings will be resolved when more developments of the drama are revealed in the future.”
“The One and Only” tells the story of three women who have met in a hospice and decided to take down one bad person with the limited time they have left. Through unexpected events they become entangled in a murder case and are faced with meeting “one person” who is truly precious.
