“The Queens are unstoppable” BLACKPINK is a hot topic ahead of 1st comeback in nearly two years

Expectations are heating up for BLACKPINK’s long-awaited full-group comeback.

BLACKPINK will officially return to the music scene after a year and 10 months with the pre-release single “Pink Venom” on August 19th and the second full album “BORN PINK” on September 16th. Active idols generally spend less than a year to prepare for a comeback. It is by no means easy to leave a gap between comebacks for more than a year, unless it is an unavoidable situation such as military enlistment. This is because, in the fiercely competitive K-pop market, a long hiatus can seriously hurt idols’ popularity.

However, even after nearly two years of absence, BLACKPINK is still as popular as ever. All promotional contents released prior to the new album release receive a huge amount of attention worldwide. The individual teaser videos and concept teaser for “Pink Venom” were all dominating the top trending worldwide on YouTube.

BLACKPINK’s 3D avatar MV for “Ready for Love”, released at the end of July in collaboration with PUBG Mobile, recorded more than 63.88 million views (as of August 16th) even though the members did not appear in person. This shows how “thirsty” fans around the world are for BLACKPINK’s new music.

As such, the stock price of YG Entertainment is also soaring thanks to BLACKPINK’s power, which draws attention from all over the world just by the news of their full-group comeback. After plummeting in June, YG’s stock price has been on the rise again since July, when BLACKPINK was confirmed to make a comeback.

On August 12th, YG’s stock price recovered to 60,000 won, and is expected to rise higher once BLACKPINK starts their promotional activities for “Pink Venom”.

BLACKPINK has confirmed their participation in the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs) to be held on August 28th. MTV VMAs is considered one of the four major popular music awards in the US along with the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards.

Above all, BLACKPINK is expected to set up a special stage at this awards ceremony. BLACKPINK is the fourth girl group to appear on the stage of MTV VMAs after TLC, Spice Girls, and Fifth Harmony, and the first among K-pop girl groups.

At the MTV VMAs held two years ago, attention was focused on whether BLACKPINK could win “Best Song of the Summer” for “How You Like That”. This year, the group was nominated for the “Best K-Pop” category. Lisa and her solo song “LALISA” were nominated for “Best Metaverse Performance”.

In addition, BLACKPINK will hold a large-scale world tour to meet 1.5 million fans in North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania, starting with the Seoul concert on October 15th. Attention is thus drawn to how far BLACKPINK will fly with their future activities in this splendid comeback.
