“The Little Mermaid” star Halle Bailey reacts to malicious comments that poured out after the trailer was released
Actress Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel in the film “The Little Mermaid”, recently expressed her position on hate comments targeting her.
In an interview with The Face on February 23rd (local time), Halle Bailey said, “As a Black person, you just expect it and it’s not really a shock anymore”, regarding the criticism she faced after getting cast as Ariel.

She explained, “I don’t care about what social media says”, adding “Beyoncé was always like ‘I never read my comments. Don’t ever read the comments.’ and I’m taking that advice”.
The actress added, “When the teaser came out, I was at the D23 Expo and I was so happy. I didn’t see any of the negativity”.

Halle Bailey confessed, “Appearing in a live-action film is a little burdensome. When you’re doing a remake of anything, people can’t help but compare your work to the original”, adding “I hope people like my version of ‘The Little Mermaid’. But at the same time, I’ll respect it if they don’t”.

The trailer of “The Little Mermaid” gained 4.3 million likes, while the number of dislikes has exceeded 360,000.
