The Korea Music Content Association filed a complaint, Jin BTS will have to enlist earlier than expected?

They think that this is the exclusive law for BTS

The Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) stated they filed a written objection against the revised military service law that is set to take effect on June 23, 2021. KMCA pointed out that Article 12-3 of the Enforcement Decree of the Military Service Act is unrealistic and on April 1, they submitted a written objection to the Military of National Defense.

KMCA, industry leader K-Pop, has on behalf of 26 companies registered with the association to submit protests.  They vowed to join 26 member agencies to request the Military Service Act to contribute to the development of K-pop and enhance the national reputation.

Under the amended Military Service Law, pop culture artists can postpone their enlistment until the age of 30 provided they are recommended by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism among the recipients of the Order of Culture Merit. 

KMCA stated, “It is not reasonable to base the qualification on the Order of Cultural Merit.” Accordingly, one of the criteria for this medal is that individuals must have been active in the public culture and art field for more than 15 years.

Thus, artists must do artistic activities from under 13 years old to receive the Medal of Arts before the age of 28, the required age for enlistment.

Meanwhile, BTS has only had 9 years of artistic activity. Jin, the oldest member of the group, was born in 1992 and will turn 29 this year.  He debuted in 2013, at the age of 21. they are the youngest recipients of the Korean government’s Order of Cultural Merit for their contributions to promoting Korean culture.
