Thailand plans to appoint BLACKPINK Lisa to be a tourism ambassador

Lisa and Italian singer Andrea Bocelli are expected to be invited by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to perform in Phuket later this year, with the goal of promoting Thailand as a “world-class destination”.

Thailand will hold a grand countdown event to celebrate New Year’s Eve 2022. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is considering inviting the Italian singer – Andrea Bocelli and female Kpop idol Lisa of BLACKPINK to perform at the event, which is likely to take place in Phuket, as the Thai government is planning out to promote the island as a “world-class destination”.

The head of TAT, Yuthasak Supasorn, stated that the plan is aimed at restoring the confidence of tourism, attracting international tourists, and at the same time bringing Thai destinations back into the global spotlight, after the Thai government has announced recently that most of the country is getting ready to reopen to vaccinated international travelers in November.

The chairman of Federation of Thai Industries, Supant Mongkolsuthree, said that although it requires a huge budget, inviting singer Andrea Bocelli and K-pop star Lisa would be well worth the money. With an estimated fan base of up to 20 million people globally, Mr. Supant Mongkolsuthree suggested that Thailand should appoint Lisa to become the country’s tourism ambassador.

Besides promoting tourism, Thailand continues to consider eliminating the process of issuing a certificate of entry (COE) to simplify procedures for foreign visitors. This is considered the biggest obstacle in the implementation of the country’s “Phuket sandbox” plan. In addition, TAT also proposed that the government reduce the price of RT-PCR tests to less than 1,000 baht and add testing capacity at airports to avoid congestion.
