South Korea’s President shares a congratulatory message to BTS after their momentous victory at AMAs 2021

President Moon Jae In recently posted a moving congratulatory message to BTS on their win at the American Music Awards 2021.

On the evening of November 21 (US time), BTS became the focus of attention with their appearance at the American Music Awards 2021 (AMAs 2021) held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA. Besides delivering two energetic and explosive opening and closing performances, the Big Hit boy group also wrote a new history not only for Kpop but also for Asian music, making their fans and Korean netizens beyond proud.

At AMAs 2021, BTS won all 3 categories that the group was nominated for, including ‘Favorite Pop Duo or Group’, ‘Favorite Pop Song’ (for ‘Butter’) and ‘Artist Of The Year’. For the Pop Duo or Group category, the group won 3 years in a row. The other two categories are even more meaningful because this is the first time BTS received a nomination and won.

In particular, ‘Artist of the Year’ is the most important award of the AMAs. This year, for the first time, an Asian artist was nominated and won. This shows that BTS is not only recognized in terms of music in the States, but also continues to pave the way for many other Asian artists, especially for Kpop to expand on to the world.

Witnessing BTS’s historic triple wins, South Korea’s President Moon Jae In posted a congratulatory message to the group on his Twitter account. The President’s message is as follows:

“Congrats to BTS for winning the Artist of the Year award at the AMAs.

Last month, the U.S. global think tank Strategic International Research Institute held an unusual conference under the theme of ‘Korea’s Soft Power’. During the conference, world renowned scholar Joseph Nye, the founder of the concept of ‘soft power’, praised Korea for proving the world’s most dynamic soft power by combining unprecedented economic success with vibrant democracy. Korean culture dominates the world and its strength in national character and diplomacy.

BTS’s win at the AMAs confirmed this once again.

The reason for introducing this part of the news conference is because something that Joseph Nye once said came to mind. He said, ‘Even though there is no country that has been more successful than Korea over the past 60 years, still so many Koreans think that are weak or behind. This affects their optimism and creativity.’

What do you think? Isn’t it worth having confidence and pride now?”

— Moon Jae In

It can be seen that President Moon Jae In not only congratulated BTS but also affirmed that the group’s influence and success is one of the clearest examples of Korea’s “soft power” in recent times.  He thinks this is something to be proud of and hopes that Koreans will also be encouraged and maintain their national pride when looking at such achievements.
