Sorn (CLC) caused controversy over face-shaming the Squid Game’s Indian actor in her Tiktok video
CLC Sorn is receiving a huge wave of criticism for her video that is considered a disrespect to Indian actor Anupam Tripathi.
Recently, Sorn (CLC) collaborated with Wishtrend TV – a skincare and beauty brand, to produce a promotional video. The content of this video is to recommend some skincare products for “Squid Game” characters.
This is a viral trend on Tiktok in which people share their opinions and reviews about their favorite characters. The more they like any character, the more products they would recommend for them.
However, what makes Sorn‘s video controversial is about Ali – the Pakistani character in the series. If the other characters only received 1 suggested item such as serum, cotton, vitamin C, etc., the female idol introduced a lot of skincare products to Ali.
Some fans think this is Sorn‘s positive attitude towards Ali, because the meaning of the trend is that the more you like someone, the more good things you give them. However, many people consider Sorn’s video offensive because Ali is not Korean and has a darker skin color than the other actors. This is a long-standing beauty standard that encourages everyone to have a fair skin tone, regardless of whether they need to do skincare, wear makeup, or go through a whitening cycle.
After the incident broke out, Wishtrend TV responded with a comment, saying: “We recommend Ali many products because we love Ali!” Currently, this Tiktok video has surpassed 300,000 views and has been changed to private mode.
Previously, in 2019, Sorn attracted attention when sharing photos taken with friends. Among them, there was a man wearing a racist mask. Sorn later deleted the photo and wrote a letter of apology. Partly due to this past scandal, netizens have a negative view of her. As a result, the above TikTok video has caused such a big controversy since netizens believed she had a bad attitude towards Ali.
