Song Joong-ki for the 26th Busan International Film Festival: “As the Opening MC, hope I can be of some help”

Actor Song Joong-ki of the movie “Space Sweepers” (by Director Cho Sung-hee) explained why he hosted the opening ceremony of the Busan International Film Festival. 

Song Joong-ki said at the “Space Sweepers” Open Talk held on the outdoor stage of the Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan on Oct 7th as part of the 26th Busan International Film Festival, “I had promised to host the opening ceremony since last year. I couldn’t do it last year due to the pandemic, and I’m glad that I can come this year.”

He then said, “I thought I should be of some help to many seniors and juniors sitting down there. There was even director Lim Kwon-taek, senior Choi Min-sik and senior Park Hae-il right in front of me. It’s good that I can be of some help.” 

In addition, when asked how he felt about visiting the Busan International Film Festival, Jin Sun-kyu of “Space Sweepers” admitted he always feels the same coming to the Busan International Film Festival. “It’s like a festival, and I can feel that I’m surrounded by people who love movies. The sea, weather, and the delicious food are always good. Every time I filmed a movie, I keep wanting to come here,” he replied. 

“Space Sweepers” is a movie about the crew of the space garbage ship Victory in 2092 jumping into a dangerous deal after discovering Dorothy, a human-robot known to be a mass destruction weapon. It was released on Netflix in February and was loved by viewers around the world. 

The 26th Busan International Film Festival will be held throughout Busan, including the Haeundae-gu Film Center, until Oct 15th. 223 movies from 70 countries will be invited and screened. The opening film is director Lim Sang-soo’s new film “The Land of Happiness,” starring actors Choi Min-sik and Park Hae-il. The closing film has been selected to be director Longman Leung’s “Anita Mui” which contains the life story of Hong Kong’s legendary star Anita Mui.
