On November 15, CJ ENM announced that Wanna One will be performing on stage together for the first time in three years at the 2021 MAMA (Mnet ASIAN MUSIC AWARD), which is going be held on the 11th of next month.

According to CJ ENM, all members of Wanna One will be on this reunion stage except for Taiwanese member Lai Kuan-lin. Even after MAMA, additional activities such as holding group concerts or releasing albums are being negotiated. Some members, including Ong Seong-woo and Hwang Min-hyun, opposed the renewal of the group’s contract, but decided to join CJ ENM’s long persuasion.

Although it is Wanna One’s first reunion in three years, there are also unwelcome opinions from netizens and fans. In communities such as DC Inside’s “Wanna One Gallery,” “Produce 101 Season 2 Gallery” and Nate Pann, a number of posts were made with titles such as  “Stop pushing for Wanna One’s reunion.”

A post on Nate Pann stated that CJ ENM is pushing for a reunion that even Wanna One does not want. Regarding reports that CJ ENM had successfully persuaded members who opposed the reunion, fan A, who wrote the post, said, “The names of the members who opposed the reunion, including Ong Seong-woo and Hwang Min-hyun, were recently released online. Is it true that the opposing members were “persuaded” when they were criticized by some fans? “This is not persuading, but threatening.”

The manipulation of the “Produce 101” vote, in which the producer in charge was sentenced to prison, was also mentioned. In “Produce 101 Season 2,” from which Wanna One was made, NU’EST‘s Kang Dong-ho and LimitlessSung Hyun-woo were respectively victims of the first and fourth round’s vote manipulation .

A pointed out that Wanna One‘s reunion would become a second round of abuse against victims of Produce 101’s voting manipulation, such as Kang Dong-ho and Sung Hyun-woo, adding, “Wanna One’s reunion stage is morally wrong.”

“Please leave Wanna One as a memory only. All 10 Wanna One members’ fandoms are opposing. The reunion is not wanted by any members or fans. It is a reunion that only CJ benefits from,” the OP stressed.

On the other hand, there are also voices in favor of Wanna One‘s reunion. A number of posts were made on Twitter saying “Wanna One did not do anything wrong, so there is no need to restrict the members’ activities.”

Meanwhile, Wanna One is a group formed through the 2017 show’s “Produce 101 Season 2.” The group debuted in August of that year and enjoyed syndrome popularity during their active period until January 2019.

Wanna One’s debut album “1X1=1” turned the group into a million seller, and all the albums they released since then continued to be No.1 hits. Upon its debut, the group sold out all of its solo concerts at Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro-gu, Seoul, and successfully attracted 350,000 fans in its world tour in 14 cities around the world.
