A lot of people have shown concern if the producers of JTBC‘s drama “Snowdrop”, which had more than 200k petitions against, would speak up.
An online petition on the Cheong Wa Dae website demanding a halt to the production of the upcoming JTBC drama “Snowdrop” awaits an official response from the presidential office, has gathered more than 200,000 petitioners as of Monday.
“Although it has been proven multiple times that there was no North Korean involvement in the democratization movement, this work has a spy as the main character. In addition, the other characters glorify the Agency for National Security that tortured and killed people in the government’s name,” said the anonymous person who uploaded the petition on March 26.
“Production of the drama which insults the foundation of our country needs to stop and the already filmed portions need to be destroyed,” the petition demanded.
As of 2 p.m. on Monday, 205,182 people had signed the petition.
The male character is a spy from the Northside, the introduction of the National Safety Planning Department as “tough”, the female character with a similar name to the one who was active towards democracy have gained criticism. JTBC has explained the drama’s background and promised to change the character’s name.
Before that, SBS drama “Joseon Exorcist” was also suspended due to similar reasons. SBS realized the problems, uploaded an official statement that they decided to cancel the drama.
The petitions against JTBC “Snowdrop” might not get answered. People are concern that JBTC keeps their explanation that “it is not historical distortion”.
