“Snowdrop” continues its broadcast despite the history distortion controversy, a truck protest has been arranged.

A truck protest has begun, demanding the drama “Snowdrop” to be canceled after it was embroiled in a controversy over history distortion.

On Dec 23rd, the netizen who hosts the truck protest against “Snowdrop” posted an article on their SNS account, saying, “The “Snowdrop” truck demonstration began at the intersection in front of the City Hall and YTN.”

This account said, “The protest will be conducted in two units and unit 1 will operate in Sangam-dong, while unit 2 will be at Gwanghwamun, Jongno, and Gangnam,” revealing the route of the truck protest.

Earlier, JTBC’s drama “Snowdrop” was unveiled on Dec 18th as actor Jung Hae-in starred alongside member Jisoo of BLACKPINK, who played her first leading role. Even before the broadcast, there has been a controversy over history distortion, specifically beautifying the National Security Agency and denigrating the democratization movement, but “Snowdrop” and JTBC still pushed ahead with filming, saying the scenario had been revised before releasing teaser videos and script reading videos ahead of the first broadcast.

However, after the first episode of “Snowdrop,” a petition was posted at the Blue House demanding a broadcast suspension. Naver even has to block the “Naver TALK” channel, where viewers can respond to the drama in real time to protect the cast from abusive language, slander, and malicious comments.

“Snowdrop” also closed its eyes and ears from criticism from viewers by keeping its viewer bulletin board private. This attitude of “Snowdrop” led to criticism not only for the drama but also for the cast, and the national petition has surpassed 100,000 signs in a day, going the same way as SBS drama “Joseon Exorcist,” which was abolished due to controversy over history distortion.

Despite viewers’ objections, JTBC decided to push broadcast instead of canceling “Snowdrop”. They explained, “’Snowdrop’ is a creation that shows the personal narratives of those who were used and sacrificed by those in power. There is no spy leading the democratization movement. Most of the misunderstandings will be resolved when more developments of the drama are revealed in the future.”

As a result, the production team of “Snowdrop” was accused of violating the National Security Act, and the advertising industry continuously turns its back on them. On Dec 22nd, the Universal Declaration of Citizens filed an application for an injunction against the drama’s screening, and the controversy is growing as a truck protest has begun. In this situation, the attitude that “Snowdrop” should take is not to push broadcast using actors and their fandoms as a shield, but to accept criticism and make a wise choice before it is too late.

Set in Seoul 1987, “Snowdrop” tells the love story of Su-ho, a prestigious university student who suddenly jumps into the dormitory of a women’s university, and female college student Young-ro, who hides and takes care of Su-ho amidst the serious surveillance and crisis. It airs at 10:30 PM every Saturday and Sunday.
