Singers are sold as stocks? Mnet announces “Artistock Game”, another controversial survival show
Mnet, tainted with controversy over manipulation and evil-editing, is launching a new unique show.
“Artistock Game” is a trading game in which viewers become users. They can evaluate the talents of singers, and trade their values. It is a music survival show where the player’s fate is determined only by the user’s choice.
“Artistock” is a compound word of artist and stock, meaning the talent of a singer becomes a stock. The show will introduce a unique concept that allows viewers to directly value the talent of their favorite singer.
The teaser video released along with Mnet’s announcement of the show’s launch reads “We are selling 48 singers”. The 48 participants, regardless of their background, including solo artist, idol, indie musician, DJ, or creator, have to raise the stock prices by showcasing their talents and maximizing their strengths as much as possible.
In a strict system in which only those with high stock prices can go on stage, participants of “Artistock Game” are expected to do whatever they can to get picked by users.
“Artistock Game” is set to premiere in October.
