“Hometown Cha Cha Cha” Shin Min-ah – Kim Seon-ho became the best couple in 2021’s K-dramas, followed by “Vincenzo” Song Joong-ki – Jeon Yeo-bin.
In celebration of the 17th anniversary of the high-quality entertainment business magazine JoyNews24, from October 12th to 19th, a survey was conducted asking about dramas, movies, actors, singers and entertainment programs that brightened up this year. 200 members of the entertainment industry, including employees of entertainment companies and broadcasting companies, film and broadcast content producers as well as entertainment reporters, participated in the survey. The results of the survey are introduced by sector.
If there is something indispensable in Korean dramas, it is romance. Regardless of genre, it would not be an exaggeration to say that K-dramas without romance are the earth having no sun. We found out the best couple in this year’s dramas through a survey. While more than half of the survey participants selected Shin Min-ah – Kim Seon-ho of “Hometown Cha Cha Cha”, 4 top-ranked couples drew attention as they all starred in tvN’s works.
◆ “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” Shin Min-ah – Kim Seon-ho, receiving great love as “Sik – Hye couple”
103 entertainment industry’s officials picked Shin Min-ah – Kim Seon-ho of tvN’s “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” as the “best couple in 2021’s dramas”. In other words, more than half of the survey participants chose this couple.
In “Hometown Cha Cha Cha”, which is a remake of the classic 2004 film “Mr. Hong”, the romance of Yoon Hye-jin (played by Shin Min-ah) and Hong Doo-sik (played by Kim Seon Ho) had a gradual progress as they argued with each other for more than half of the drama. With their attractive dimples when they smile, the two were called “Sik – Hye couple” and received great love throughout the drama’s airing.
Although the issue of Kim Seon-ho‘s private life became controversial, the romance between the two left a strong reverberation. “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” ended with a rating of 12.7% (based on Nielsen Korea, households nationwide, pay-per-view households standard), and their healing romance was the top contributor to the drama’s highest viewership ratings.
◆ Followed by “Vincenzo” Song Joong-ki – Jeon Yeo-bin, “Hospital Playlist 2” Jo Jung-seok – Jeon Mi-do, Kim Dae-myung – Ahn Eun-jin
“Vincenzo“, which drew attention as Song Joong-ki’s comeback work, tells the story of an Italian lawyer and mafia consigliere who comes to Korea after a gang betrayal and on a mission to get back at his enemies, the drama’s villains. While the process of revenge unfolded in an interesting way, the romance between Song Joong-ki and Jeon Yeo-bin gained momentum in the second half of the drama.
The romance between the two began with an unexpected kiss scene. The viewers were as shocked as the contact between the two was so sudden. Yesterday’s comrade became today’s lover. However, Song Joong-ki and Jeon Yeo-bin convincingly portrayed a love story of two people who were in the process of fighting a common enemy.
Both third and fourth places were from tvN’s “Hospital Playlist 2.” In the drama, Jo Jung-seok and Jeon Mi-do received 18 votes, while Kim Dae-myung and Ahn Eun-jin received 14 votes, respectively. “Hospital Playlist 2” is a drama about the chemistry between people and their 20-year friends in a hospital, which can be seen as a miniature version of life, where some are born and others end their lives.
Jo Jung-seok and Jeon Mi-do played Lee Ik-joon and Chae Song-hwa, who were old friends in the drama. The two, who could not have a happy ending in season 1, had a nice ending with a strong kiss scene in season 2. On a rainy night, the kiss scene between the two in a quiet car was a famous scene that stopped the heart of the viewers. The moment the two, who were each other’s first love, turned around and took the seat next to each other, viewers cheered, and the ratings soared. The highest ratings are 14.1%.
Kim Dae-myung and Ahn Eun-jin, the second couple made by “Hospital Playlist 2,” settled in fourth place. Kim Dae-myung, who played an obstetrician and voluntary outsider Yang Seok-hyung, and Ahn Eun-jin, the obstetrics and gynecology resident Choo Min-ha, showed extreme charm in this drama.
In addition, KBS 2TV’s “Youth of May” Ko Min-si and Lee Do-hyun (8 votes), JTBC’s “Monster” Shin Ha-kyun and Yeo Jin-goo (8 votes), and SBS’s “Penthouse 3” Um Ki-joon and Kim So-yeon (6 votes) also drew attention for their rankings.
