The Joong-Ang Ilbo reported that the police have detected and are investigating allegations related to the destruction of evidence from Seungri. Yoo In Suk, CEO of Yuri Holdings, who belonged to the group chat room, one of the hotbeds that triggered the “Seungri gate,” was also investigated as a witness.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s metropolitan investigation team summoned the victory behind closed doors on April 4 and asked the members of the group’s chat rooms, including Yoo, Choi Jong-hoon and Jung Joon-young, to directly contact them and replace their phones with new ones. The move comes after allegations of prostitution emerged on Feb. 26 when part of the conversation, “Call a woman because a customer has come from Taiwan,” was made public through the media. Police said Seung-ri “has no recollection of what he said in 2015. Do you have an old cell phone or do you have a record?” He also said that he should replace the mobile phone he is using now because the investigation could proceed.
When police questioned Choi Jong-hoon about why he suddenly changed his phone, Choi said, “The victory asked me to change my phone.” Jung Joon-young also changed his cell phone for the same reason.
According to a summon behind closed door by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s metropolitan investigation unit on April 4, Seungri called other members of the group’s chat room, including Yoo, Choi Jong Hoon and Jung Joon Young, to directly tell them to change their phones to a new one. The move comes after allegations of prostitution emerged on Feb 26 when part of the conversation, “A Taiwanese guest just came, call some girl,” was made public through the media. Seungri told the police, “I don’t remember what I said in 2015. Do you have the old cell phone or do you have the record?” He also told others to replace the mobile phone they are using now because the investigation could proceed.
When police questioned Choi Jong Hoon about why he suddenly changed his phone, he said, “Seungri told me to change my phone.” Jung Joon Young also changed his cell phone for the same reason.
In fact, Seungri, Choi Jong Hoon and Jung Joon Young all submitted their new cell phones to the police. Except for one person in the chat room, they all submitted new cell phones.
Police are reportedly planning to summon Seungri once again and ask whether he has ordered others to replace their mobile phones or if he intended to destroy evidence. If the intent to destroy evidence is clear, chances are high that Seungri will be arrested. This is because the court considers the destruction of evidence or the escape of fleeing to be the reasons for issuing an arrest warrant.
Seungri has been charged with violating the Food Sanitation Act, arranging prostitution, distributing illegal video clips and embezzlement. If he is charged with destroying evidence, the charges will rise to five.
