On February 27th, former spokesman Kwak Seung Yong posted on his Facebook page, claiming “I received lots of information about candidate Jang Ye Chan and have already checked the content. It is said that the problem related to ‘Gangnam Hwata’ begins in the third episode of Vol 2. According to my confirmation, real names or similar names of Kim Hye Soo, IU, f(x) Krystal, Jo Yeo Jung, etc., do appear and the content related to Kim Hye Soo is seriously problematic”, causing a stir.

In fact, candidate Jang published a novel called “Gangnam Hwata” under this author’s name Myojae from 2015 to 2016. This novel features the real names of celebrities and characters reminiscent of them.

Singer IU, who is famous for the song “Good Day” and her triple high notes, was named Lee Ji Eun (her real name), and actress Kim Hye Soo, known as the “Blue Dragon’s Lady”, also appeared in the novel as Kim Hae Soo. However, the content of the novel makes them become sexual targets.

In this regard, former leader of the People Power Party Lee Joon Seok posted on his Facebook page, saying “I apologize to IU fans on behalf of Jang Ye Chan. Please don’t hate the People Power Party”, adding “I don’t know how people over 12 are already allowed to read such a novel. I’m curious about the web novel rating system”.

However, candidate Jang countered, “This is a malicious attack that violates freedom of expression and hinders freedom of creation”, adding “The content did not harm any celebrity in real life”.

Theqoo netizens who have read “Gangnam Hwata” poured out criticism, saying “There was even a part that mentions the lyrics of IU’s hit song ‘Good Day’ and her triple high notes. Isn’t it obvious that you choose IU as a model for your novel?”, “I think IU can sue him”, “Writing a novel with the real names of celebrities is freedom of expression? Isn’t it like a sex crime?”, “IU was still a minor when she sang ‘Good Day’. What the hell did you think about IU when you were writing a novel like that?”, etc.

IU’s side has not yet responded to this controversy.
