As Disney fans around the world are more interested than ever in the film’s success, Disney Korea’s promotional strategy is drawing attention from movie fans.

On May 18th, a photo capturing Disney Korea’s promotion of the movie prior to the release of “The Little Mermaid” was posted on an online community, garnering great attention.

The published photo shows that “The Little Mermaid” will be released in IMAX on May 24th, but instead of featuring American actress Halle Bailey, who played the protagonist Ariel, it focuses on NewJeans Danielle, who voiced Ariel in the Korean dubbed version.

Halle Bailey’s visuals are not at all emphasized. The official poster, which shows the black actress from afar, is visible at the top, whilst a video of Danielle takes up most of the screen.

According to movie fans, this is probably due to mixed opinions in Korea regarding Halle Bailey’s role in “The Little Mermaid”, and the lack of emphasis is to avoid controversy. In addition, utilizing the popularity of NewJeans to the maximum is also seen as a good strategy to increase the interest in the movie.

Meanwhile, the trailer for “The Little Mermaid” starring Halle Bailey, which was uploaded to the YouTube channel “Walt Disney Studios”, currently has 610,000 views.

Meanwhile, a teaser video featuring NewJeans Danielle, which was uploaded to the YouTube channel “Disney Korea”, has 2.6 million views.
