New details in GOT7’s departure from JYP made Knet suddenly praise JYP as a kind and humane company.

Before that, many comments criticized the company for treating members badly for 7 years.

On January 11, JYP Entertainment officially confirmed that GOT7 will not renew the contract with the company.  The 7-year exclusive contract between GOT7 and JYP will expire on January 19, and after a period of discussion, both sides have reached an agreement that they will not re-sign.

After debuting on January 16, 2014, GOT7, as a JYP male group, has been active for the past 7 years to build a global reputation.  Talking about the time of working together and sticking together, JYP side sent their thanks and goodbye to GOT7 in their official announcement: “We genuinely thank GOT7 for being part of the growth of K-pop and JYP, as well as I GOT7 and all fans who have been a source of motivation to GOT7’s activities with their endless support since their debut. Our official relationship ends here, but JYP will sincerely cheer on the new future that the GOT7 members will advance into.”

When GOT7 decided not to re-sign with JYP, although most of the comments from fans were happy that the group was finally able to escape from a company that has treated them unfairly many times.  However, besides that, many people expressed their regret.  As planned, all 7 members have their own plans with new companies, so it must be such a long time that GOT7 can work together with the full lineup in the future.

However, since they only left JYP without declaring disbandment, fans still have the right to look forward to a day when GOT7 reunites in the near future.  In fact, Kpop has had many groups like Shinhwa, SNSD, … still continues to keep the group name for joint activities even when the members are under many different management companies.

GOT7's departure from JYP

Another good thing is that according to the standard contracts of pop culture artists announced by the Fair Trade Commission, even after leaving JYP, the group can still use the name “GOT7”.  Article 8 of the trademark rights law states that: “During the contracting period, Party A (the management company) has the right to develop, register and use intellectual property rights by using all stage names, real names, nicknames, photos, images,  signature, … to show the identity of the artist. However, after the expiration of the contract term, all the aforesaid benefits will be transferred to Party B (artist) “. This means that as soon as the contract between the two parties expires, JYP Entertainment will transfer all ownership of the trademark of the name “GOT7” to the members and they can freely use it even after leaving the company.

Many viewers and fans were glad that GOT7 did not face a dispute like some previous cases of Shinhwa, BEAST / Highlight, …. Besides, many netizens also praised JYP for being a kind and humane company when (maybe) they wouldn’t block GOT7’s activities even after all the members left the company.

– “Lately, name transfer is mandatory? Or because JYP is good with the artist so they voluntarily do it?”

 – “If the old company blocks the artist, the use of the name will become a lot more complicated, but it looks like JYP will not do such dirty things”

 – “Although not required by the law, JYP is still a very kind company in matters like this.”

– “As for JYP, they won’t ban GOT7’s future activities ㅋㅋㅋ”

 – “If it were other big companies, everything would not be so easy”

 – “GOT7 doesn’t re-sign, they will leave, why are there so many people criticizing JYP?”

– “Well, JYP is such a nice company when it comes to this matter. Hope to see GOT7 soon”

GOT7's departure from JYP

Before that, right after the rumors of leaving JYP appeared, the GOT7 members simultaneously uploaded the same photo of all 7 members on their personal account and proved their strong friendship through the hashtag.  # GOT7Forever.  Since the group showed such a cohesive team spirit right before leaving the company, fans can expect that they will see GOT7 together in the near future.
