After BTS V accidentally followed BLACKPINK Jennie, netizens found out V has used Instagram since a year ago

The accident of V (BTS) following Jennie (BLACKPINK) on Instagram is still a hot topic. Most recently, netizens have spread a photo captured from V’s live broadcast in 2020.

Unlike other famous KPOP idols, BTS members waited for 8 years after their debut to open personal Instagram accounts. As BTS is a top boy group with huge influence, it is not surprising to see their accounts rapidly gain lots of followers. In addition, they even broke the records of Instagram followers set by other famous stars.

However, an accident occurred right after BTS publicized their personal Instagram accounts. Within 24 hours, at least 3 female artists had to face the rage of ARMYs due to unexpected reasons, from using the same emoticons as BTS to following only 1 member but not all. Among all the incidents, the case of V unintentionally following BLACKPINK Jennie has caused lots of controversies during the past few days.

On the morning of December 7th, fans were shocked to see Jennie’s name appear in V’s ‘following’ list together with BTS members’ accounts. It is reported that V unfollowed Jennie immediately after getting caught. Then, he went on Weverse and asked fans the way to cancel the ‘recommendation’ feature on Instagram, indirectly proving that it was just an accident. Things would have ended here if BTS fans hadn’t flocked Jennie’s Instagram, cursing and demanding her to “leave V alone”.

Amidst the intense war between these 2 big fandoms of KPOP, many people dug up a V Live broadcast of V back in 2020. V’s phone screen was shown on the live in a slight moment, and the Instagram notification icon was spotted. This means V might have used Instagram secretly since last year, not having just started using it recently.

Many BLACKPINK fans feel angry because Jennie is getting unnecessary hate. Anti-fans of BTS also criticize V and accuse him of “pretending to be an Instagram noob”. Many netizens claim that it might have been an accident at first when V followed Jennie, but he could have stopped there and let it slide instead of going on Weverse (where only fans can interact) to comment that Instagram was a “scary app”. This action of V has provoked immature fans to leave hateful comments on Jennie‘s account although she did nothing wrong.

These criticisms aimed at V have obviously infuriated ARMYs as many fans cannot understand why just one click of follow could lead to such chaos. Plenty of V’s fans are constantly defending the male idol by explaining that even if he actually used Instagram from a year ago (via a secret or side account), he could still be unfamiliar with the app because even those who have used Instagram for 5-6 years don’t know all of its features.

Besides, according to some ARMYs, it is also possible that the phone with Instagram notification icon in the V Live does not belong to V, but one of the staff, because Kpop idols are unlikely to show their personal phones on live broadcasts. Moreover, some comments also suspect this photo of being edited, not the original screenshot from V‘s V Live.

Currently, this topic is drawing much attention on Korean online communities. In a trending post on Nate Pann with the title: “But why is V acting like he is using Instagram for the first time..?”, a Korean netizen also posted the screenshot of V’s post on Weverse and his old V Live and questioned: “Didn’t he already have an Insta app on his phone… If he said nothing, people would have thought it was just a mistake and let it go. Why did he feel the need to pretend to be using Instagram for the first time and get into all this trouble…? ㅠㅠ”.

So far, this post has gained 549 up votes and 295 down votes. In the comments, Korean netizens have divided opinions. Many comments say that using Instagram for a long time does not mean one should know everything about the app, while others argue that it does not matter when V started using Instagram, but it is his complaint on Weverse about the app that started the problem.
