The selfie picture that broadcaster Noh Hong-chul took with BTS Jin is drawing attention due to his teeth.
On November 3rd, Jin uploaded a photo taken with Noh Hong-chul on Weverse, saying that they ran into each other on the street.
Jin said, “I was riding my bike home after work then met Hongchul hyung on the street”. The photo received great attention from fans immediately after it was posted.
However, netizens found something unusual in this photo and pointed out it was Noh Hong-chul’s tooth.
In the released picture, Noh Hong-chul appeared with his unique bright expression. He opened his mouth widely and showed a happy face. Therefore, netizens said they saw something inside his lower jawbone on the right and presumed it to be an additional tooth. Some people even pointed out there were actually two extra teeth instead of one.
Netizens’ opinions were divided into two. Some believed it was a “supernumerary tooth” while others argued that it could be a “torus mandibularis”.
“Supernumerary tooth” refers to an additional tooth beside the number of normal human teeth and could occur anywhere in the mouth. 5% of Korean men have this. Although it is often ambushed in the gums, there are cases when it shows up and could change the face’s shape.
On the other hand, “torus mandibularis” is a kind of bony growth developing on the lower jawbone beneath the side of the tongue. It can be seen near the back teeth or the canine teeth. This case is very rare in Korea, but some people may happen to develop this when they get older. However, this is not a serious problem.
