My Name” is a Netflix series telling about the harsh truth and revenge that Jiwoo (Han So-hee/Oh Hye-jin), who entered the mafia organization to find the culprit who killed her father, faces after joining the police force under a new name. This film also received an official invitation to the “On Screen” section of the 26th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) held earlier this month.

Director Kim Jin-min has not only gained popularity with his 2007 drama “Time Between Dog and Wolf“, but also proved his ability to direct Korean dramas through the Netflix series “Extracurricular” (2020).

During the interview, Kim Jin-min expressed his thoughts as a director over the viewers’ disagreement with the bed scene of Jiwoo and Pildo (Ahn Bo-hyun) after the release of “My Name”.

He explained, “Writer Kim Ba-da also worried a lot about the love scene. After thinking about what action could halt Jiwoo’s unstoppable thought of revenge for a moment and change her mind, I agreed with the choice of making that scene. No matter how many times Pildo tried to stop Jiwoo, she never thought of giving up. Isn’t she a person who had not felt the warmth from others and wandered for a long time? I wanted to show that Jiwoo is not a monster.”

Then, he continued, “The focus of Jiwoo and Pildo’s bed scene was the two’s feelings as humans, which are close to animals’ instinct, rather than love. I heard people reacted saying the scene happened “out of the blue”, but I have no regret directing that scene. I don’t mean to say those opinions are wrong. I believe without that scene, Jiwoo’s later choice could have been illogical. However, I think people can feel it in different ways.”
