“The Good Bad Mother” is creating a buzz about its various portrayal of motherly love.
For most of the series, Lee Do Hyun makes waves on social media for a versatile acting performances allowing him to go from a complex prosecutor to an innocent child. However, now that the drama is reaching its end, viewers are paying more attention to Ra Mi and her motherly love in various forms.
Immense motherly love
Young Soon has lived a struggling life. when she was little, she lost all her loved ones. When she found happiness with her husband, she lost him to the forces of the elite. The only source of sustenance of the family – the pig farm, was also burnt to ashes.
At that moment, if it had not been for Kang Ho, she would have chosen death. Nonetheless, out of the pure want to give her son a better life, she was motivated to continue living.
In a new village, Young Soon built a pig farm from scratch. Even when she had to do all the heavy lifting, the loving mother never gave up, all for the future of her child.
A never-yielding love behind a harsh and cold front
Afraid that her son would repeat the miserable life she had endured, Young Soon did whatever it took to guarantee a brighter future for him. When he was little, she forced him to study and punish him with physical means whenever he was distracted.
He was endowed with a gift for the arts from his mother. Yet, when she learned about his drawings, Young Soon angrily tore them apart. When he started watching TV a bit too much, she threw it out. It went to the extreme when Young Soon did not let her son eat too much so that he would be distracted.
Nonetheless, she never turned away fully from all his efforts. Young Soon secretly taped the torn drawings together or ate all the food he was not allowed to finish.
Young Soon never thinks badly of her son
To start his master plan, Kang Ho (Lee Do Hyun) had to sever his ties with his mother. However, Young Soon was unaware of this and still cared for him wholly. She brought him food all the way from the countryside. When Young Soon could not reach him and had to leave the food at the security guard’s boot, she told herself he was only too busy.
When Kang Ho confronted her and asked her to sign the adoption papers, she was in utter shock, but proceeded to do what was asked of her. It is all for Kang Ho’s wishes.
Kang Ho is Young Soon’s top priority
When Young Soon found out she has cancer, the first one she was worried about was Kang Ho. Now that he only has the mind of a 7-year-old, Young Soon found herself at a dead-end. Therefore, she used her last moments to train Kang Ho how to survive.
She played the “bad guy” again to help her son be on his feet. In one scene, Young Soon pushed her son wheelchair to a river bank and pushed him into the water, hoping that could tap into his survival instincts and enable him to live in the most difficult situations.
