Lee Dong Wook says he can’t have a loveline in “Tale of the Nine Tailed 1983” because he is a married man

Lee Dong Wook shared his thoughts on returning to the role of Gumiho after 3 years since “Tale of the Nine Tailed” season 1.

On May 3rd, the press conference for tvN’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama “Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938” was held online. Director Kang Shin Hyo, Lee Dong Wook, Kim So Yeon, Kim Bum, and Ryu Kyung Soo attended the event.

“Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938” is a fantasy action historical drama about Gumiho Lee Yeon, who crash-lands in the chaotic era of 1938 and strives to return to the present day. It is a sequel to “Tale of the Nine Tailed” aired in 2020.

With a unique worldview that intricately weaves together indigenous gods and ghosts, dynamic action and scale, and more colorful folklore characters, Lee Dong Wook returns as Lee Yeon after 3 years.

Lee Yeon, who became human in the previous season and had a happy ending with his first love Nam Ji Ah (Jo Bo Ah), is unexpectedly summoned to 1938 due to an unforeseen incident.

Lee Dong Wook explained the plot of “Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938,” saying, “Something happens, and I’m sent on a mission again. I didn’t know where I would end up in the drama, but when I was separated, it was 1938.

Expressing his feelings about joining the series again after season 1, he said, “I’m very grateful. I’m happy to be able to act in the beloved ‘Tale of the Nine Tailed’ again. But I also felt pressure. We need to make it more enjoyable than season 1.” He added confidently, “I think you won’t be disappointed. The director and I talked about it, and we said that there’s no point in doing it if it’s not more fun than season 1.

Regarding the differences from season 1, Lee Dong Wook said, “In season 1, there were a lot of personal emotions. In season 2, we focused on how Lee Yeon neglected and gave up on love.

Director Kang Shin Hyo talked about the highlights of the drama, saying, “There’s everything except melo (t/n: loveline) for the male lead. I put everything except melo.”

To this, Lee Dong Wook laughed and said, “I can’t do melo. Because I’m a married man,” mentioning his on-screen wife Jo Bo Ah.

Finally, Lee Dong Wook said, “When the first teaser for ‘Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938’ was released, I felt that many viewers were looking forward to it. I prepared it without disappointing those who waited and loved the drama.”

“Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938” will air its first episode on May 6th at 9:20 PM KST.
