Kpop idol group brand value rankings in October: aespa impressively narrows the gap with BTS

The return of this chart after months of being unannounced has brought many surprises in important positions.

On October 30, the Korean Business Research Institute revealed the results of this month’s brand reputation rankings of K-pop idol groups. The rankings are determined through an analysis of consumer participation, media coverage, social network index and community awareness of idol groups that are active in the Korean music industry, with 77,285,009 pieces of data collected from September 30 to October 30, 2021.

In fact, the Kpop idol group brand value chart has been absent for months since its last announcement in May 2021. During that time, the throne remained unchanged and BTS proved to be the hottest Kpop idol group. However, compared to the result of the previous announcement, BTS‘ total brand score has plummeted by 43.73%, from 12,309,892 points in May to only 6,927,239 points in October.

The highest ranking keywords related to BTS in October 2021 included “concert”, “army” and “ARMY”; while the most popular terms about this group were “certified”, “collaboration” and “singing passionately”. The negative-positive ratio analysis showed that BTS received 68.20% of positive reactions from the Korean public this month.

As a result of its successful comeback with “Savage,” aespa has leaped eight positions from May’s results to take second place. In October, SM’s rookie girl group scored 5,122,971 brand points, an astounding gain of 150.78 percent from 2,042,821 points in May, when they ranked 10th.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK maintains its third-place standing, which is unchanged from five months ago, with a total brand score of 4,352,159, increased by 26.24% from 3,447,439 points in May. The remaining 2 positions in the top 5 belonged to NCT with 3,034,212 points (increased by 23.15%) and SEVENTEEN with 2,627,376 points (increased by 18.06%).
