This is the first time the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has invested budgets to deal with fraudulent online listening in the digital music market in order to improve the accuracy of the song rankings in the music charts.

In addition, Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has asked the six largest online music service providers in Korea including Melon, Genie, Bugs, Mnet, Naver, and Soribada for a set of documents related to digital music fraud in the past.

This is a perfectly appropriate action at a time when so many digital music frauds are in place. SHAUN, Nilo or Vibe are all names suspected to have fraudulent behavior by netizens. However, their songs are highly regarded, especially the summer hit “Way Back Home” (SHAUN).

Recently, the internet community has accused Mnet of treating unfairly with EXO and Jennie due to their being in disagreement with SM and YG. Mnet seems to have intentionally kicked those artists out ofno.1 to stop them from conquering the All-kill or Perfect All-kill title.

It is unclear whether or not fraudulent practices are involved in these cases, but it is absolutely necessary to raise and tighten the management of digital fraud to improve theaccuracy of the song rankings in the music charts.
